New coach yet?

Not going to rip Richt because that is just too easy to do right now. Still believe the man knows a lot about the game of football, and has done a lot of good. I appreciate the run he had at UGA, and I guess I was one of the "sunshine pumpers" because I believed that a man who is in the Top 10 winning percentage of all-time, and at the point I was defending him, he had never had a losing season, should not be fired after an 8-5 season.

Well, now things have changed. I am not going to say whether he should be fired or not. I am just going to say, it doesn't mattter to me either way at this point. I just want to win. Going to let the people who do this for a living make the decision. If the new AD thinks it is time for a change, then make the change. If Mac thinks Richt can somehow get the job done, which I just don't see happening, then let him come back next year. But he better win at min. 10 games next year, or he is gone.

Bottom line is I am just tired of being frustrated what seems like every weekend. I want to see the Dawgs where they belong. I still can't get over what I witnessed. We made history that is the worst type of history we could have made Friday. We were the first bowl win that UCF has had.

I have always felt if we were going to replace Richt, I would like to get Patterson so he is the guy I would want.

AD5.......couldn't agree with you more. I've been preaching Gary Patterson and his whole staff as well. The guy can coach. His D was getting manhandled at the beginning of the Rose Bowl and figure a way to stop Wisconsin's offense enough to win the game. Love the way he coaches BOTH the offense and defensive sid of the ball. Imo.....he's in the top 5 best coaches in college football.

I asked my inside guy that's close to the program his thoughts and he's right on track with all of you. Not sure you care what he had to say but here it is anyway.

I really like Richt. He is a wonderful man, and I actually think he’s a pretty good coach. However he has lost control of the program, and this death spin that the program is in is beyond his ability to fix. He’ll be a good coach again, but he needs a fresh start somewhere else. Recruiting is going to crash and burn this year, so this will be the second poor recruiting class in a row. Forget IC, Quan Bray, Drew, Mitchell, etc… Would you choose to go to Athens and join that mess right now? Programs like Tennessee and South Carolina have now passed us and have positive momentum… not to mention Auburn, Alabama, FSU, Florida and LSU. We are now on par with Kentucky, and unfortunately it’s going to get worse before it gets better. Boise will beat us soundly in Atlanta, and then SC will take us to the woodshed the next week. I see 6 wins next year if we are really lucky. How are we going to be better without AJ, Houston, Durham, Boling, Dent, and probably Boykin and Glen? Add to that a disintegrating recruiting class. I see wins over Coastal Carolina, Vandy and New Mexico State. Kentucky, Georgia Tech, and at Ole Miss will be toss-ups. I see losses to Boise, SC, Miss St., Tennessee, Florida and Auburn. We’re actually lucky because next year’s schedule is easier since we drop Arkansas and add Ole Miss.

All of that being said, McGarity will give Richt another year. Richt probably deserves another year. Unfortunately, I just can’t see how he’s going to be able to turn around this freight train of negative momentum that the program currently has. The best thing to do would be to cut bait, and pray that we can get a good coach to come in and try to fix things. Recruiting is going to stink anyway, so let’s get on with the transition period.

Unfortunately, that just isn’t going to happen…

Richt had a good early run.
Coaches no longer have the luxury of living off their past success.
I think he could still be a decent coach if he had the fire in his belly.
I just don't think he has that motivation anymore.
I have never seen a more lackluster team than I witnessed Friday.

This is kind of what I'm saying. My wife was commenting the other day that I don't get into college football like I used to. That's my problem with Richt. He's made it to where it just isn't fun any more. 3 seasons ago, and before, I used to wake up excited on Saturday morning. I would turn on a pre game show in the morning, and take root on my couch in front of the TV until after midnight, watching any game that in any way might affect UGA. I'd pull for teams UGA had beaten or had to play, to help their ranking. I'd pull against teams ahead of us in the polls so we would move up when we won. You guys know the drill, I'm sure most of you did the same.

But ever since the 'bama beatdown in '08, each weekend has gotten progressively more meaningless as far as college football is concerned. Nothing affects UGA's ranking because they're never ranked any more. No game affects their chance to win the East because they're usually realistically out of the race by the UT game. I'm now to the point of watching UGA's game, and maybe another big game if I have nothing else to do.

It just isn't fun to watch any more, and I blame Richt, and that is why I think we need new blood at the top.

The SMART era CONTINUES!!!!!!

Interesting info on why UGA won't get rid of CMR this year (financial #'s).

"And all those folks who wanted to let Richt and his staff go after this season probably haven’t looked at what it would cost. It doesn’t take a lot of checking to see that such a decision, which would have included Richt’s buyout (just under $7 million) plus the cost of buying out the assistants would have cost Georgia in the $9-10 million range. Then you have to hire a new coach (at least $3 million) and another staff. So right now that would be about a $15 million decision for Georgia. I don’t think that was a factor in this decision but in this economy you can’t pretend that it doesn’t exist."
