Somebody, please, help me understand... was created by sadlerdawg
Alright, I'm not trying to get a debate started, and I won't counterpoint any points that are made in this thread (unless they violate the rules below or are known to be false), but I would REALLY like for somebody to explain to me why they want Richt to stay. I would really like to understand. And I'm not being a smart @$$. Somebody convince me, because I like the man, just not the coach. So have at it, tell me why UGA should keep him.

And oh yeah, you can't use history, such as his past record the first 5 years, or the fact of how bad Donnan/Goff were, or the fact that he is a good man. What is it about the FUTURE of UGA football that would make us think Richt is the man.

Ready, set, GO......

Let's try this tid-bit from Richt's mouth.

Richt said Grantham’s intensity is one of the reasons he hired him in January to replace Willie Martinez.

“He had a lot of fire about him, and I think that’s important for a D coordinator, especially at Georgia, with me as the head coach,” Richt said. “You want your defensive coordinator to be a lot of things. He’s in charge of that side of the ball, and he’s not going to get micromanaged from me. And I’m going to spend a lot of time on the offensive side of the field when practices are going on, so he’s got to be the one really generating the enthusiasm and the tempo. I thought that was important.”

That is the first quote from Richt that I have read that mentions why he released Willie Martinez.

Not enough fire . . . . coming from Richt, holy cow. Richt has known and been around WM for years, did not know that first off he was not qualified, and sure as hell not possessing the fire that Richt mentions.

Think that most of us can agree that AM is the leader of the offense, I am doing ok with that statement, right . . . . First words of anyone defending CTG came from the leader of our offense. He and his teammates love the fire that CTG brings to UGA. Offensive leader talking about the defensive coach and his methods. Wonder if maybe "aw shucks" might learn something from CTG and quit getting bullied on the football field by other SEC coaches.

Richt can and should learn something from CTG, it is called "mental preparation".

Nope, you are right. Man is not a good coach. Terrible. Got lucky to win that NC at FSU. Somehow all those pro players developed theirselves. He had nothing to do with those guys. Had absolutely nothing to do with bringing in good recruits. Just a blind luck, that Stafford, Moreno, Green, Murray, and the others ended up here. Just always been lucky never been good. Those 2 SEC championships. LUCK. 2007. Finishing 2nd in the nation and almost getting a shot at playing LSU. LUCK. Future. Murray has developed himself too. Richt has had nothing to do with his success. This man knows nothing about developing QB's. Stafford, Green, Weinke, Shockley. Murray needs to get out cause it is apparent Richt knows nothing about developing a QB. All those writers claiming Richt has done a great job with Murray are idiots too. He is going to win freshman of the year in the SEC because of himself only. Coaching had nothing to do with it.

You are exactly right. The man is a soft, idiot, that apparently had a hold of the longest lasting rabbit's foot ever.

Fire him now. Fire that idiot who has a NC, ACC champ, SEC champ, and is top 10 all-time in winning percentage of a coach. Fire that man. He KNOWS NOTHING about what it takes.

Who cares what he has done, we need a coach that jumps ups and down and makes an a** out of himself on the sideline. Hell, according to the results many want to see. I think I have the perfect man for the job according to what people want. ED ORGERON. Guy can recruit and act like an idiot on the sideline.

Just want to point out something that I also find funny. Keep reading that everyone keeps taking up for CTG. I understand that. I like him myself, but lets take a look inside the numbers:

Saban is the standard of excellence here so let's look at what his teams have done against the teams we have lost too:

Against USC, Bama gave up 31 pts, UGA gave up 17. Offense let us down
Against Ark, Bama scores 24pts and wins the game. UGA scores 24pts and loses the game. Huh, difference must be defense.
Against UF- Bama scores 31pts and beats UF by 25pts. UGA scores 31pts and loses in OT. Huh.
MSU- Offense totally. WIll not even try.

And then there's Colorado. Let's see how that potent offense has stacked up against some other offenses. 7 points against the terrific D of Cal. 0 points against Missouri. 25 points against TT, 25 pts against Baylor, and 10pts against UO. Only team they scored more points against than UGA was Hawaii. They scored 31pt against that defense. So, do not care what system or any other excuses, our defense is 2 points better than Hawaii's and we are looking at our offensive minded HC.

Huh, I think everyone knows that you win this league by having a great Defense. Defense plays average we have at least 2-3 more wins. Blame Richt because I am sure he has so much to do with the D.

So right sadlerdawg, easy to take apart, just have to ignore the same ranting from thread to thread.

Have said more than once that I would like to see Brad Johnson at the helm calling offensive plays. Wonder what AM could learn from . . . . . cough, cough . . . a Super Bowl winning QB? Richt's brother-in-law, the same family member that turned Richt on to CTG. My, my. . . .

Maybe Brad did that in hopes of ruining the UGA football program. Now I get it . . .

Really don't remember MB playing pro ball, ok college QB. Has spent his time in and around Athens, not much experience outside of Athens and South Georgia.

Ask Jon Gruden what he thinks of Brad Johnson.

Also, glad that we have finally gotten away from trying to turn "home town" players into SEC capable coaches. Lakatos, Belin, CTG and others are a welcome sight. There is coaching talent outside the confines of Athens. Did Richt wake up too late to discover this fact? We will know in 2011 when we lose 14 or so seniors, probably 4 juniors, maybe more. Last call.
