Paddle name - "The Holy One" - not only did you hate to get hit at school - but when you got home - you got another dose - and your right steve - you could hear it all over the school - everybody kinda behaved for a few days in fear that you might be the next one

Oh yeah steve - you had to go to the local car hop place like todays sonic and hang out - only got to do that if I had been good enough and grades were good - ahh 1957 - a very good year

Damn ya'll are old - thank goodness for AD5 (64 here)

I couldnt agree more Rabun Dawg, As Ive said before these alot of these kids have had no real parenting or parents. So they already are who they are by the time they get to athens, and CMR is the best example of how to be a Man they have seen. Believe it takes time to change minds and hearts, Cant do it over night and yes media and TV have alot to do with our drive thru society of gotta have it right now My Way. And I will be 43 on 9/24 GO DAWGSSSS!!!!!!!

Once A DAWG Always A DAWG

I was fortunate enough to never get in enough trouble in school, not to get beaten there. I think I was in the 5th grade when our county joined the trend and outlawed school whippings. I am younger, but off football topic for a minute, I do find a couple similarities that stand out in today's school systems. How many school shootings did you ever hear about when you guys were in school? I am guessing none. Back then, you had 2 things that were in school. The teaching of the Bible and physcial punishment. In my opinion, those 2 things are the main things that need to be brought back. Not that I am at church every Sunday, but I know there is a man we are all going to have to answer to. Plus, I can remember how embarrassed I would get when I got my rearend lit up in front of a couple of friends, I would definitely not have done anything to make it happen in front of my whole class.

My Dad call his wooden paddle "The Mediator". And he used it in what he called AA meetings. Attitude Adjustment.

AllDawgs5, I remember my "AA" meetings fondly also. I also used to think it was a part of going to church to come home and get a spanking. But, I truely believe I turned into the person I am today because of those meetings. Like you, my school system did away with them early in my career. The last one I ever remember getting was in the 2nd grade.

40 here............strict mother and Colonel father. I think we should take the beatings further and apply them to many adults as well.

Yo AD5 - tell it like it is - agree 100%

Well f_d - I do remember my AA meetings - just not fondly

kd - truer words have not been spoken - many of these adults never grew up and do not know what to do with children
