Disipline problems?

Disipline problems? was created by stevedawg
No matter what is said this year about the team or coaches I keep getting back to we need more disipline.

The worry about what color jersey to wear, getting busted over and over, stupid statements in the press. What to tweet today or how to look cool on Facebook? Is anybody going to play any football?

What do you think? I especially want to hear from Dawgs that have been around 20-30 years. What is so different today? I simply don't remember all this going on. I know the times have changed, but football hasn't. You know the drill, move ball, get points. Stop other team.

What would Butts, Dooley, Erk and other Dawgs of similar staute say? What do you think?

For winning the Natty give every Dawg a bone AND prime rib steak.

Well Steve Here's my 2 cents worth - it's society as a whole - I can remember when we got our first tv - I can remember when we got our first air conditioner - we played outside as much as possible - we created things to play with or played games with our friends - sneaking around to smoke a cigarette or drink a beer was a BIG thing - you were living dangerously - now it's both parents working all the time - kids growing up with all these electronic devises - getting cars when they reach 16 because they have to keep up with everyone else - instant gratification - these kids and young people don't want to have to wait for anything - they want it all and they want it NOW - us old-timers had to work hard for what we got - took time - did not get it quick - If you can raise a child these days and keep them off drugs and out of jail - you've done a pretty good job in this society today - I cannot imagine the pressure that these young folks go through today to do things that they shouldn't do so they can be COOL - the temptation on them is large - I worry constantly about my grandchildren (ages 7-22) that they will make it in this day and time - have been blessed that children and grandchildren so far have made it ok

There is nothing new today other than 24 hour media coverage and a camera in every phone. The problems we see today are as old as dirt. The difference is now there is pervasive media coverage of every fart, sneeze and hiccup.

I agree Rabundawg. Also, the parents 25+ years ago were more disciplined toward their kids. There was no "time out". A sore A55 and a long restriction was enough deterrent back then. It only got worst if the misbehavior continued.

And that same discipline was applied in our schools. Now schools can hardly discipline at all.

I grew up in the time of "yes sir, no sir, yes maam, no maam".........There were no whats.
That was true at home, at school, at church, everywhere.
Discipline was swift and to the point.
You treated adults with respect.

RabunDog, I remember when a hundred dollars would buy you a decent car.
