Wart,
I don't think its that easy. I think Sam Pittman will be in the metaphorical trophy case at UGA for a long time to come. Sam was the answer to a decade-and-a-half long outcry from fans that know football. What he did for this program in 4 years will be felt for many years. He was the guy who was driving a truck of ice cold water for those stranded in the desert heat. Even after he left UGA, he was still doing wonders for the program.
Did you happen to hear something he said about his time at Georgia? I can't claim credit for this thought, it goes right to Brandon Adams in yesterday's podcast. Sam was asked what his takeaway from his time at UGA was. This is what he said:
Kirby Smart...you know, I thought I was a pretty good recruiter before I came to Georgia. I had a pretty good success with recruiting, but then I came to UGA and saw how Kirby Smart recruits players. It's recruiting on steroids. Kirby taught me recruiting with passion. He's so good. I got a first hand look at what real recruiting looks like. I learned so much about what it takes to be a top tier recruiter, and he was a great teacher.
Don't think that every assistant in college football that is relevant didn't pay attention to that. Georgia is where you want to be if you want to see how it's done. Georgia is where you want to be if you want to advance your career. Georgia is a place where an O-line coach can catapult himself into a head coaching position.
I agree, we need to move on from Sam Pittman, but he'll be a part of this program in my eyes forever. Just as Coach Pruitt is.
