Shannon, would love to see Matt Luke in Athens. Matt is like Jeremy Pruitt and some others, football coach. Matt Luke gained valuable experience when coaching with Cutcliffe at Duke. Matt Luke has my vote.

Well let's be honest here... No one wanted to lose Sam P, but that's about as good as a replacement as anyone could have hoped for..

I am all about the foundation, and I think Matt Luke will continue to ensure ours is solid.

So come on back dawg nation.. get down off that ledge that Sam Pittman put you on.

God Bless and Go Dawgs

Wart,

I don't think its that easy. I think Sam Pittman will be in the metaphorical trophy case at UGA for a long time to come. Sam was the answer to a decade-and-a-half long outcry from fans that know football. What he did for this program in 4 years will be felt for many years. He was the guy who was driving a truck of ice cold water for those stranded in the desert heat. Even after he left UGA, he was still doing wonders for the program.

Did you happen to hear something he said about his time at Georgia? I can't claim credit for this thought, it goes right to Brandon Adams in yesterday's podcast. Sam was asked what his takeaway from his time at UGA was. This is what he said:

Kirby Smart...you know, I thought I was a pretty good recruiter before I came to Georgia. I had a pretty good success with recruiting, but then I came to UGA and saw how Kirby Smart recruits players. It's recruiting on steroids. Kirby taught me recruiting with passion. He's so good. I got a first hand look at what real recruiting looks like. I learned so much about what it takes to be a top tier recruiter, and he was a great teacher.

Don't think that every assistant in college football that is relevant didn't pay attention to that. Georgia is where you want to be if you want to see how it's done. Georgia is where you want to be if you want to advance your career. Georgia is a place where an O-line coach can catapult himself into a head coaching position.

I agree, we need to move on from Sam Pittman, but he'll be a part of this program in my eyes forever. Just as Coach Pruitt is.

Good read as always SouthernDawg.

What I took away from what Wart posted struck me a bit different. I thought he meant that Dawg Nation needed to move on, think most of us know that the media will and do work every angle for "clicks" as long as it registers a positive.

Would expect nothing less of Coach Sam Pittman than showing "class". New sheriff in town, maybe it would be better said as new "deputy sheriff " in town. I for one am climbing on board with the hiring of Matt Luke, think many folks are doing same.

All I meant was that when it was announced Sam Pittman was leaving, there were many in Dawgnation who acted as if we were now doomed.

My comment was simply that no coach leaving dooms our program, and we got a good enough replacement that people shouldn't worry about our O-line moving forward.

I would never downplay the good things CSP did for our program just like I never downplayed what CJP did for us while here.

However, "next man up" is as true for coaching positions as it is players.

God Bless and Go Dawgs
