Quote below from Kirby. Fully believe what he has to say about the defensive backfield, not just "coach speak". Do not find Smart to be a coach that "cries wolf". Not to say too much about the National Championship Game, but . . . . breakdown in the defensive backfield was costly. Young men playing then had a lot of time in practice and game experience in Athens. Kirby I think prefers the 3 man front, means the 8 pups behind the 3 have to work as 1. Going to be some serious film room and turf work prior to the season start.
Not much doubt that we are very close to a two quarterback system. Much more to be accomplished, quarterback is 1 of 11 players on the field.
Coach Kirby Smart said . . . .“We’ve got a long way to go in the secondary. We had a unique unit of DBs that played a long time. With them gone, we’re trying to get some guys in here to fill that void. We’re not where we need to be, we don’t have the depth we need and we’re not playing at the level we need to play at. They’re going against some good quarterback(s)
and receivers at practice every day.”[/b]
