From Athens- Friday Thoughts

Good Morning All,

Business like….focused…. working to make practices count and produce improvements….

Years three we come to expect that from HC and staff….. no coach chatter…. However HC was sounding a tad like his former boss… lamenting that we weren’t physical enough ….

Glad hear that Kevin Butler has returned to practice while he is recovering from hip replacement surgery ….. can’t overstate his value to the improvement of our kicking game…. It was a big reason for us going as far as we did last year…..

As a sidebar… musical chairs with the departures from our coaching staff…. HC did a excellent job of plugging in new faces with the same focus as those who moved on…. Even upgrade in some cases imho… hearing real good things about new WR coach….

HC understands the need to be able to pass…. While we get use to our new RB’s and how the rotation will play out….

Interesting to see what CBS and ESPN ….. are saying about the Dawgs in 2018….

CBS….. wheels come off…. Trap games all over our schedule …. May make it back to Atlanta for SECCG….however won’t go any further….

ESPN…. Also has us back in ATL….. and back in the playoffs….

Let’s start by beating Austin Pea….. play one at a time….. and improve..

Believe there is more to naming Coley as co-offensive coordinator than originally meets the eye.

Good move by Smart to keep Coley in Athens, could have caused some problems had he decided to sign on with Jimbo Fisher at A&M. Coley is strong in Florida as a recruiter, also respected for his offensive understanding of the game.

When Coley was coaching at FSU, tight ends were a huge part of his game planning. Expect to see more of that in 2018 in Athens. Realizing that Chaney now assumes the role of coaching the tight ends, increases my interest in the meeting between Smart, Coley and Chaney. Appears to me that there was a "meeting of the minds" in that setting.

One thing that I keep in mind is what the high school coach said about Salyer. Best offensive lineman he has ever coached, totally ready for the next level. Thomas came from the same high school and proved in the best football conference in football that he was ready. Salyer's going to play, period. Offensive line is basically three deep.

South Carolina in Columbia will be a game to watch and form opinions about the 2018 Georgia Football Team.

Coley coaching QB's also says a lot and imho Fields will be the starting QB by game 6. Just too good not to play every down when the game slows down for him. Not a dis on Fromm but Fields is THAT Good

He will get real PT..... learn and grow...........
