More Change in Culture

Part of a change in culture comes about with a change in priorities.

Many lamented the fact that Blakenship wasn’t put on scholarship earlier, but the end result of all that was a dedication to work and an improvement as good as any position on the field. Coach Smart put kickers on notice and set a standard for what we want out of this position to earn a scholarship. Scholarships are a precious commodity, and there is a level of performance necessary to get one.

Now look at what we have in that young man. A position that has gone from a liability to average to a game changing asset in one season.

..... but let’s also talk about another unsung hero. Another pivotal position that can change the momentum of the game in one play..

Cameron Nizialek

This Ivy league grad has come down south and taken our net punting average from 108th to 45th in the nation. Now that’s a helluvan increase, but you may say to yourself that 45th is still not great.

You might say that if you don’t know football. Let’s look deeper. The net average is middle of the pack, but we’ve asked him to punt on a short field.. we’ve given up 9 yards on punt returns.

...and when we have needed him to flip the field, he has done it almost every time.

Unsung hero...

Cameron Nizialek.

Changing priorities.

God Bless and Go Dawgs

Success is not possible in the SEC without a punting/kicking game. Kirby knows football. Jake Camarda will punt and be involved in the kicking game in 2018. Defense continues to play SEC football, Camarda will make sure the opponent does not return kickoffs. Alabama wanted Camarda, nuff said.

Buc...you have been out in front on the importance of a strong kicking game being a key factor in winning games and championships..

The huge improvements this year over last is a classic example...

Agree Wart....HC...wanted improvements before passing out scholarship to Rodriguez....

There’s that work thingy again....

Kicking game among priorities for Coach Kirby....

Yup another example of no changes for our football program... just better smoke and mirrors...hmmm.....

Go Dawgs

Bye week presser.

Kirby speaks of culture change in this presser. It's ongoing, it's perpetual. It's happening.

Southerndawg, article below goes hand in hand with your post. When AM says it, Buc believes it. ;)

Lifted this from the article below . . . .

Murray went on to say that the Bulldogs seemed to believe that every SEC game would be close during his career:

Buc,

Good Lord... this quote...is this not the biggest indictment of the Richt-era from a man who was front and center in it? I mean, all of us who follow the Dawgs knew this was the case, but to hear Murray come right out and say it?!

Aaron Murray wrote: “I think the main difference right now is the mentality that Kirby has brought,” Murray said. “It’s the mentality that Alabama has where they walk into every game and they know they are going to win. That’s already a `W’ in the win column in the mental state of the game, where they’re not walking in scared.”

Translation - we were walking into every game scared.

Wow.

Just wow.
