Georgia Football Question . . . .

There's definitely something different in Athens now. Could it be that Georgia has finally moved past that stump in the road that kept us from glory? I'm not sure and it's certainly a little early to tell, but here's what I see: kids that are at the top of their game all of a sudden are hot on Georgia. Why? CMR was certainly a good recruiter, but not on the level of what has recently been happening. Elite players want to play for CKS; there's a sense of something great building, like a summer storm when you hear the thunder but know that soon the skies will open and the lightning will reveal the storm's fury. Like pressure against a wooden door, the door straining to hold back what's behind it. I suppose that's excitement, but we've had excitement for years. This feels different. CKS doesn't candy-coat anything. I get the sense that HE believes that this team is not where it needs to be, and that's a good thing. I doubt he's the type that will allow people around him to not get on board with what he's building. You'll either be great, or an afterthought type of mentality. No more okay-with-okay. Like I said, something just feels different.

CMR was a good recruiter but there was no meat to the deal. Lame operation.

For winning the Natty give every Dawg a bone AND prime rib steak.

Steve, for sure Mark Richt was good in the living rooms. Had a serious problem in the rooms where the players and coaches were gathered at halftime. Results were too often described as . . . . "what"?

CMR was a good football coach in many ways. The problem is that a program like UGA does need a good football coach. It needs one of the best coaches in the country, if not the best. A coach that is clearly in that special class that demands respect through success, commensurate with the resources available.

CKS has gotten off to a rousing start, and appears to bring a professionalism to the program that shows he has the potential to be a great coach. It is clear that he understands there is only one measure of that - to win, especially against elite opposition.

I wish CMR all the best, and hope that he finds success at Miami. But I am very glad that UGA finally decided that it was an elite program and needed to start acting like it. Perhaps Saban did a lot more for us that just train our current coach - he showed the country that UGA did not meet the high standards for national success in the most meaningful way possible. It was a wake up call.

rockdawg, your post leaves little doubt that many board members agree with LimeyDawg's post.

Do not believe that anyone here wants Mark Richt to do anything more than "improve his game".

Has been said many times on Dawgs.com that we were tired of the "Roller Coaster Ride".

If Smart and Company continue to recruit Georgia and come away with more talent that we have in past years, could be that we make that next step.

Mentioned this a time or two . . . . Coach James Coley is going to be all that. He was really good in the State of Florida recruiting and coaching.

Matt Landers that verbally committed to UGA was offered by many, Miami being one of them, along with FSU, Florida, Notre Dame, Michigan and others.

Really hoping that we can keep most of these coaches in Athens for a while, also understand that offers will come for many of them. Think over the years that Nick Saban faced that same situation many times in Tuscaloosa.

What the heck . . . . Maybe we are on the right path. Been a while.

Good read rockdawg. :)
