Brian Herrien is the type of back that defensive linemen hate to see heading their way.
After the "huge" offensive line has had their "battle" with the defensive line, along comes a "wrecking ball", somewhere between the second and third quarter, many of the first quarter battles have been settled.
Think we have seen another side of our coaching staff, yes it does resemble much of what we witnessed year after year in Tuscaloosa.
For sure defensive backs and many linebackers do not like face to face contact with backs like Gurley and Herrien.
Coach Pittman has to love seeing running backs like the ones that over the years find a place in Athens.
Come Fall and we have serious scrimmages up until game time, both sides of this team will have scrimmaged against a better opponent than they will face on the 2016 Schedule. Cannot remember a year, if ever, I have enjoyed the change as much as the one I have watched with this head coaching change.

The 6-foot-1, 210 pounder is an impressive specimen in the Class of 2016, but his story is rather unique. He got to know UGA coach Kirby Smart back when he was still the defensive coordinator at Alabama. When Smart got the UGA job, he quickly dispatched assistant coach Glenn Schumann to check on Herrien.
Picked the above paragraph from Jeff Sentell's column.
Another case of Kirby Smart not letting any grass grow under his feet. Beginning to wonder if Kirby sleeps.

In the following article, much is said.
Began reading and it sure sounded like conversations that have been going on for "many years" on Dawgs.com. Said in an earlier post, appears that many have finally taken a look at the value of the offensive line.
Best article I have read on the subject in a long time.
Certainly backs up the fact that a "change" was sorely needed.
Mark Richt is back doing what he did best at FSU and in the early years at UGA coaching the Miami offense. I still say that he is better suited as an offensive coordinator, as a head coach, many coaches could have done just as well with the talent UGA has had over the years. That is a simple fact.
Catching up might take a year or so, but Smart and Company will catch up and pass many.

yankeedawg1, you were one of the originals posting the need that needed to be made along the offensive front.
Great to have quarterbacks and running backs, but as has been said here before, ball snapped, offensive line goes to work, right now.
grantham was a believer in big defensive linemen. I still think back to the Atlanta game against Alabama. Their offensive line in the second half kicked our butts. Coaching staff in Tuscaloosa understood "depth" also. Depth is another issue that has been discussed here for a long stretch.
Trenton Thompson is a great athlete, he however is going to need a lot of help in 2016, not sure how much depth we will have. I still have high hopes for Keyon Brown. Young pups need to "behave" and grow up quickly. Will be interesting watching Smart and Company making calls on the defensive side.
Has been said . . . . Fall camp will produce a lot of answers, going to be a total war between the good guys, prior to North Carolina in Atlanta.

Another plus . . . . young men having fun competing.
Times and players are changing in Athens. Good thing.
