Music to my ears. Statements below from Coach Smart fit in my wheel house. Depth has been one of the main topics on Dawgs.com for a "very long time".

Another thing that impresses me is the fact that Kirby Smart does not beat around the bush, calls it as he sees it.

Smart and Company are serving notice that Georgia Football has turned the page. Smart without going into past history for many years, yes before Mark Richt signed on, change was/is imperative.

Coach Smart also made another point that is going to be to the betterment of UGA Football. Coaches are in early and studying film of teams that we played last season and will face again this season. That is doing ones homework. Another missing link for many years.

“It’s concerning to me size-wise. When you say the first 22, it’s very comparable. Once you get past the first 22, its’ very deficient and there’s not as much depth there.”

Open statement by the Head Coach that every position is open. Want it? Earn it.

I am also one that believes the opening game against North Carolina is going to be a test, serious test. They also improved their coaching staff and last years record speaks to that.

yankeedawg1, glad that we are opening up with a team that is on its way up. Really don't care which conference they are affiliated with, good football is good football. North Carolina is not to be taken lightly.

We will find some things out about ourselves from the opening whistle. Won't have to play the waiting game, meaning facing competition that is better than many we have faced off with in previous years. Many of which accounted for a large portion of the wins that some like to point to when looking at the record over 15 years.

Alabama proved the point above in 2015. Yes they did.

We will be tested early, and that's fine.

Size isn't everything but when you take 10 shots at something you have a better chance at hitting than if you only take 3.

In other words...'DEPTH boys... depth. I know size doesn't mean talent, but there's something to be said for rotating in your 3rd string OT and having him come in at 330 to lean against a D-lineman who has already been pounded on by two other guys who weighed in at 340... Plus again, looking for gold with 5 pans is better than looking for it with only 1. Too often in the past we put all of our eggs in too few baskets.
