I've read a lot of copy about Mel Tucker in the past 24 hours. Personally, like the article that Kimberley Nash has put out for all to read. Lady Sportswriter is very good at getting down to what is real and otherwise.
Kirby Smart has brought in a list of coaches that have been around the game for a long time, and have also been successful at different places.
While Kirby Smart has brought some of his "friends" to Athens with him, he has also stepped out and hired some coaches that were not on the same field with him as coaches for many years. New head coach is all about now.
Offensive and defensive coaches alike are very secure in their way of coaching, and from all I can gather from our head coach, that is what he is looking for. Do not for a minute believe that Kirby Smart is looking for "yes" men. Kirby is all about the business of college football, college football that is a business and he is treating it that way in my opinion.
Wide variety of coaches experience and probably temperment in this group. Single thought from me is the coaches coming together as a unit (team). That falls solidly at the feet of Kirby Smart, and he is not ducking. Another lesson learned under the "Master".
Picked this up from Kimberley's article below . . . . Quote from Barry Alvarez.
“Saban told me he was the best recruiter he ever had,” Alvarez said of Tucker. “And one of the things Tressel told me is Ohio State would not want Mel Tucker recruiting for another Big Ten school.”
What really becomes obvious to me is the path that Kirby is taking. On this board for several years the word "DEPTH" has been used. Kirby Smart understands that and that is exactly how he will build the Red and Black in Athens.
When I look at the coaches on board and the history they bring to Georgia, going to be a group that knows how to recruit depth. Kirby Smart knows he has hired the right coaches to "Finish the Drill".
Long time in coming, but the time has come and damn right I am excited about the way Head Coach Kirby Smart is approaching SEC Football in Athens.
