So, because I am a glutton for punishment and since all my socks are already neatly ironed and folded away, I decided to watch Muschump's presser and the introductions.
The level of phony, plastic excitement in that room from SC President Harris Pastides and AD Ray Tanner was so thick that it was impossible not to notice it. Pastides gets up there and is all smiles, jovially announcing: "I had an opportunity to meet them last evening and what a family they are. They were all meant to be Gamecocks. His wife Carol, his older son Jackson and his younger son Whit. Both Jackson and Whit were decked out in Gamecock attire when they came to the house last night."
Really? You hire a head coach, and what do you expect his family to show up in? Grateful Dead t-shirts and flip flops? Were you surprised that Muschump was wearing a Gamecocks tie to his press conference too? Wow.
Its clearly obvious that they are doing their best to sell the idea to the University and their base that this experiment is a good idea.
There is no doubt in my mind that the boosters are uneasy with this decision, and Muschump was quick to show what kind of defensive mind he is by going on the defensive and trying to head off all the naysayers and their legitimate concerns about his arrival. Any time you have a coach who has to step in and start defending himself before he takes one question or spends one day on the job, you know that there's mighty big problems in Mudville.
