Read somewhere that Herrera and Mason are going to be the ones to step up and crack the whip.

One statement from the article you posted NC_Dawg that really impressed me. In my way of thinking it is like something that averagedawg would say in just a few words . . . .

Herrera said, "We're going to be better than we were last year."

That is coming from a Senior, and I sure as heck put stock in "seniority".

Also notice that the "cast offs" are reuniting with grantham. That also tells me this . . . . They want to go back to their playful ways.

Not really worried about our defensive backfield. Simple if one has talent.

An example: When I was learning how to tell time, my teacher taught me what the big hand and little hand meant, hell Buc became a genius. All about listening to the teacher, if the teacher understands the big hand and little hand and can relate that . . . . what?

Can only start to imagine what our defense "could" look like after this group of defensive coaches have gotten their message across. Pruitt/Rocker and the others will get their message across and accepted or . . . .

Time warp .

Sorry, could not resist, you hit a nerve . . . . :)

One more time . . . .

Promise, Last One . . . . maybe :)

Baffles me, can't understand how so many can believe that we have a head coach that is a LEADER...

...Do you really think that Mark Richt is not about the money?....Our leader follows the rules, and plays with his headset on Saturday afternoons.

I hear ya Buc. I took off my rose colored glasses after the West Virginia implosion. Witnessed many more displays of incompetence since then. However, allow me to toss a thought at you...the "Institution" made CMR! He is a product of their leadership. The "Institution" is big business and CMR's hire helped to elevate the program from mid-tier to much higher rungs. I won't say top-tier because we've only ascended there a couple of times and were eclipsed, often embarrassingly by one of those other coaches you mentioned earlier. Nonetheless, CMR brought a lot of notoriety to the program.....and the money train began to roll!!!...

I honestly do not believe that National Championships mean much to Mark. I believe he is most interested in a program that develops young men based on his spiritual background. When was the last time you heard CMR talk about winning a Natty?...Those other coaches drip that type of ego from every pore! Hell, even old coach DoNut brought a streamroller into Sanford to postulate on crystal balls! IMVHO, that's just not CMR's style. If we win one, great, but it's not a driving force for him.

Factor the above with the big business boys and girls, who care more about tickets sales, merchandising and ad revenue, and you get the perfect business model for mediocrity! Do you think they worry about 8-5 -vs- 12-0?...NOPE!...As long as season tickets sales soar, butts fill seats, TV time stays on point and the bottom line gets deeper...All's well in A Town!

Let's consider, if you will, the fanbase. Let's face it, the long toothed among us are getting fewer by the year. We remember the early 80's and before. The current fanbase is diluted with young pups that have NO IDEA what winning a Natty feels like. The fanbase is mostly comprised of individuals that have only known 8-4, 9-3, 10-2, 11-1 seasons, a conference championship here and there and an ohhhhhhh so close chance, or two at that illusive crystal ball. I remember the early Dooley years and the roller coaster rides from top to bottom and back. Again, IMVHO, the fanbase is stuck within the comfort of predictable complacency.

Finally, there's the mass media, as well as the national perception of our program. Truth is, we ARE NOT considered a "powerhouse" program once you venture past the state line. I LOVE UGA and her traditions, but I also realize that the few times we've won the Natty does not place us in the same category as those institutions that make it a priority.

Having said ALL that, I guess my point is, that there IS a majority of people perfectly content with mediocrity. It's easy and it's lucrative!....I'm not one of them, but I also realize that the Sainted One will depart ONLY when he chooses to do so. The latest coaching hires will only prolong that reality...

As you know, I was financially forced to give up my season tickets nearly a decade ago...THAT was a blessing in disguise! Now, I can sit in my man cave, 70" LED Smart TV, Bose theater system, cold beer on tap at the bar, burgers, chix, boston butt,...on the grill,....no stress, no crowds, no $1,200.00 weekends,....just good times and good friends! Do I want more?.....Yes sir, I sure do....but I'm certain that people in hell want ice water too!

GO DAWGS!!!

There is a God . . . . I often wonder if what has been mentioned here gets past the doorway.

Without a doubt, the best post on this subject, on this board and the way I feel. Expressed much better than all of my attempts to do so.

Yes, Mark Richt is a "Front Man".

High fives on your excellent post NC_Dawg.

I would pick uga by 8 points. I must say this is a game I will just kinda be rooting for uga. Have a friend on the Clemson coaching staff.

I have slowly become less and less interested in college and professional sports over the years. I just feel the size of college sport is no longer healthy for the universities. Its gotten to where the football/basketball team is more important than anything else. In pro sports they now make the citizens build the "place of business" for the teams so they can pay the players millions more. I was a huge fan for a long time even went to the superbowl one year. I did not watch one second of the ncaa basketball final this year.

So what am I trying to say? Maybe you are correct that MR is not a good enough coach to secure a championship at uga. Maybe he is a compromise for the admin as someone who can field a competitive team but will not sell the soul of the university to win the big one. I have no idea if the above is correct because i don't really know anything about the university. However I do know that not everyone looks at the athletic teams and championships as being extremely important.

scooby, much to be agreed with in your post.

I think there has been a failure on the academic side of the young players coming in. I look at the way Tray Matthews acted toward one of his professors, as NC_Dawg posted and it is I am sad to say, happening too often.

Much of what is changing these young men comes from the media in my way of thinking, reading, watching. Too many get this feeling of "importance" through some of the major media outlets and that is a dangerous position for 18 to 24 year olds.

As far as Mark Richt, I believe that he wants the best for the young players. I think as I have said elsewhere, he is "often" used by some of the street smart young men.

My single biggest issue with Mark Richt is that he has not provided a platform for many that come to Athens to play football. By that I mean he has not shown field generalship when the time comes in very important games. He allowed grantham and Martinez to go about their way of running the defense without stepping in and making changes. That of course I think comes down to him not being a defensive coach and understand that part of the game.

I also agree with your point of sports being larger than academics. While all of us would like to see "balance" not only in sports and academics, same would apply to our everday lives.

Now that the SEC is going to be officially in the Television Business, starting in August, I think. It is going to be even more of a "media show". We read where Slive and others are looking at alternatives to the NCAA. Bet the farm that Disney will be on board with that. That is not called leadership, it is called control. Disney makes a huge amount of its money in the sports game, now they "have" the SEC, they will want more "front men" in the SEC promoting "their product".

Would like to ask you a football question scooby . . . . Do you have a formula for choosing an 8 point difference in the Georgia/Clemson contest, or is it just a gut feeling? That is asked as a friend. I find you to be forthcoming, and speaking for myself, appreciate the candor.

Definitely no formula. Just think Clemson lost more players. Sammy Watkins was a great college player and I think will be strong in the nfl. I know he got a dui or something a few years ago but he manned up and accepted his medicine. I always noticed players on opposing teams going out of their way to speak with him after games. That's the kind of guy its hard to replace. AM was like that too. Seems like the Clemson offense was built on timing with their little quick passes and Tajh Boyd will be hard to replace. I'm no expert for sure, just swagging.

The last uga defensive coordinator was not good and I think the d will be better. Todd Gurley is the best runner in college right now. Who knows, this could be the year. Gotta have a little hope, right? Remember Tennessee winning with Tee Martin the year after Peyton left.
