Seriously.....

I don't think the casuals understand just how really bad our ST was.. they remember the blocks and fumbles a plenty, but they don't think about how bad the return games were aside from the dropsies. Just terrible. We got almost nothing but bad news out of every facet of ST except for our place kicker.

... and this was not just a one season aberration with one or more aspects of our ST.

Defense... youth doesn't explain that Keystone cop movie we saw out there.
Angles, tackling, .... lining the ---- up.

... and again, not just a one season thing.. While not equalling this seasons epic futility, 2/3rds of an NFL defense the year before underachieved, demonstrating the same bad tackling, etc

A lot of people outside this board just don't get how bad and fundamentally unsound this team has been in two out of the three phases of the game.... for awhile.

I don't even see that as opinion... it's just fact.

So heck yeah.... Talent factored competency in those two areas of the game coupled with an offense that can maintain enough of it's past prowess to make the 3 phases come together for 11 wins... that my friends would be a major step in right direction.

I would hope and pray for more, and maybe it could happen, but more would be total gravy.
As much as I would want it though... just wouldn't place a bet on it at all.

God Bless and Go Dawgs

But but we have to keep cmr and bobo. they are such great recruiters and bobo is a great OC. This year we will see how "great" bobo is without AM...

A Closer Look at Reality . . . .

Next paragraph was pulled from post #18 in this thread. Some of the posts on this board are read in Athens. Not saying that is the reason for Bryan McClendon's new job title, and as yet don't know about the raise. Those in Athens will save his raise for a slow day and make a lot out of what should have happened some time back. Will give the group a chance to show us how much effort and fairness our program has. Will give the head coach a chance to prove his worth, through the media.

Why should I agree with paying someone over 3 million dollars a year for mediocrity? That seems to be the going rate. Don't be surprised if soon the "Group" showers richt with another raise. Then the worker bees like McClendon rock along with less than adequate pay for services rendered. Meaning what the sport of football is paying these days, and not recognizing "real talent".

Another subject that is causing an early stir. Noticed that ESPN picked up big time on the story we talked about here yesterday on NCAA proposed changes. Coaches lining up on both sides of the issue, will be interesting to see what the outcome is with the NCAA ruling.

Leads me to this . . . . If any of us think the NCAA is going to cause a stir on the proposed rule change, and it is/will for sure. Think about the problems that are going to arise when the committee tries to settle on the "Final Four in 2014".

Take this to the bank. Disney and others will now start to show their power when it comes down to what teams will participate. They are after ratings, and if anyone does not think that there will be some "preference shown", hang on and watch. It will be the beginning of extending "four" to "eight".

SEC beating each others brains out, leaves it wide open for "certain teams" to make the final edition. Think urban meyer is smiling? Texas will improve quickly under Charlie Strong, big market for Disney. West Coast playing "fast football" a certainty. Big television market.

Just thinking out loud again. Even with the improvements we seem to have made on defense in Athens, are we going to be able to win the SECCG?

FSU, don't see a decline in that program in the near future. They are picking and choosing the players that they want . . . . again, and getting them.

Is our program ready to play in the Final Four? Not sure we have all of our ducks in a row. If I look at the latest polls and believe what I see, don't see a chance for UGA to participate in the playoffs. Going to be political as all hell.

Again, thinking out loud. Not the stuff we get from the folks that peruse this site.

Not sure how the committee will decide the final four, probably like they do in Washington, a scary thought.
I do believe there are certain powers that be that will do anything and every thing to keep a SEC team from winning it all, right down to officiating, if that's what it takes.
just my take.

averagedawg, I solidly in your camp.

Very scary thought about how things are run, and Washington is a good starting point for BS. Both sides. I am an registered Independent. Many of us like to refer to Independents as "free thinkers". Along the lines of Thomas Jefferson.

I have used the following from Thomas Jefferson most of my life. I practice the same on this board when I think the quiet should be much louder. Nothing wrong with disagreeing with the supposed majority. Referring to the "Group" that have bumbled many times in Athens. We have a right not to be taken for granted.

Believe the below quote could be applied in some cases when discussing head coaches and others. While tyranny might not be the right word, the message has been clear for many years.

“All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent.”
― Thomas Jefferson
