Sugar coated excuses aside there is no GOOD reason for the University of Georgia to put a defense on the field that plays like this one has. I can only think of one reason and he keeps blaming the players........

This is one of those articles that proves you can use stats to back up just about any point you want to make if you don't look
at anything else other than the gross numbers...

Let's reexamine this remarkable season where what was practically an NFL defense managed 19.6 PPG...

We gave up 23 points to Buffalo. Buffalo. A Buffalo squad that finished the season at 4-8 and that was held to 7 by Kent St, 3 by NIU,
and 6 by Pittsburg. Impressive, huh?

We gave up 20 points to a 3-9 Florida Atlantic squad. Giving up over 250 yards of offense to this squad in the first half.

Taking away the pick 6 on Murray, we gave up 37 to a 5-7 Tennessee squad.

I don't even have to mention South Carolina

We gave up 24 to a Kentucky squad that finished 2-10, and 0-8 in SEC play.

That 19.6 PPG was bolstered by a shutout of a bad 3-9 Auburn squad, a game where our offense bombed them early and took them
out of the game completely 4 minutes into the second qtr.

We gave up only 3 to a Vandy squad where the story was the same. 27-0 early in the 2nd qtr.

We gave up only 9 to an anemic Florida offense that finished the season 71st in the nation in scoring offense.

We gave up 10 to a halfway decent Ole Miss squad... That was a game where our O didn't take the opponent out early.. Whoopee!

Look deeper than just the raw numbers

I don't know, guys.

Sure, stats can push any argument in any direction, but this witch hunt after CTG is interesting.

I don't see what 3 players getting canned only to leave this year filled with newbies has to do with stats.

And while the defense was not stellar the past couple of years, it was not bad at all and people did step up when needed. It seems that a lot of you forgot how often the offense was 3 and punt, only to leave almost zero time for the defense for rest.

I've been pro-fire Richt forever now and find the guy to be the main reason for our mediocrity and lack of consistency. It was a surprise to watch some of you go right after Grantham and then support Bobo. I don't know, to me, it just didn't make much sense.

Lack of progress.

D looks like a fire drill trying to get lined up. We can't even waste a timeout and then get lined up properly.

Almost no improvement.

Players seeming to regress.

Underperforming D even last year when we were absolutely loaded.

I know it might seem to some that we lost two games and then just went crazy on people we loved until those losses, but that's not accurate in many cases. I had my serious doubts last year when I saw a D performing way under their potential. I just tried to stay supportive of TG and tried to find other possible answers as to why we didn't perform like I thought we should.

Now after this season and seeing very little progress... I am now thinking the problem is higher up the chain. Especially considering as well the lack of basic fundementals this D shows.

For me, in context of this having gone on for more than just this one year, it points to coaching.

Been saying Bobo has to go for a while not as long as some. Said last year mid way thru that CTG was not the one to lead us to a crystal football.............and CMR well....everyone knows where I stand....all THREE need to go.........end of story.....
