Georgia Defense and Other Things . . . .

I’m not sure how to put my finger on it but that phrase rang a bell in my head and it reminds me of how Saban coaches as much as I hate to say that. I just hope CMR can get a handle on it and be more consistent with playing “organized football”. And hey, he might be trying too hard on that too.

I watched Saban intently yesterday, kept thinking he would explode in the early stages of the game. Did not happen, ran his fingers through his remaining hair and walked around a bit. We/I have seen him act differently under similar circumstances.

Quarterback and rest of team took over, and the rest just goes to prove what "players" can do when they "understand" what needs to be done. Should not do this but will . . . . watch the actions of Ramik Wilson if you taped the game against South Carolina.

One thing that is demanded by Saban in practice is knowing what to do and where to be. Did see Kirby Smart lose it a couple of times. Looked a bit like "that" head coach at Florida.

Like the fact that Grantham is looking for a "starter" and that really opens the book up for those that want to play in a system.

Different topic . . . . Texas got it handed to them by Ole Miss. Change is imminent in Austin. Brown should hang it up and take a front office position. Football has clearly passed him by. He tried to hang on to Muschamp by promising him the future, sometimes words don't work. Hire the right head coach and there is a terrific amount of talent in the State of Texas. Elitism can be a downfall.

Trying to be sure if I understand what is going on with defenses, including ours.

Watched Alabama and TAM, while there were good defensive plays, did not stop the offenses from making both the Bama and Aggies look a bit confused on defense.

Hear more and more talk about long drives by offenses, not just the SEC, college football. What does that say about defensive football? Alabama noted for defensive football . . . . giving up 40 points. Seems they gave up a lot of points last season to Georgia in ATL.

Back to Georgia/South Carolina. Talking heads before the season kicked into gear were saying how good the South Carolina defense would be. What happened?

Then I look at Tennessee/Oregon. 59/14 Duck win. Appears to me that offensive football has taken over college football. Although it was mentioned by many prior to the season that the Vol's strength was it offensive line.

Fans of Tennessee football are now paying for poor coaching and management decisions. They might have a coach that can bring them back to respectability . . . . going to be a while, don't care who is coaching.

Almost forgot, Defensive Coordinator for Tennessee, John Jancek, Assistant Head Coach/Defensive Back Coach, Willie Martinez. Forty point defeats seem to follow Willie every place he goes. Seems that way to me. Good move Mark Richt, one friendship that neither you or Georgia faithful needed. Some can, some can't . . . . take your choice with Willie.

Glad to see our running backs catching the football. Offensive summer well spent. Might be our saving grace or one of them against LSU. Receiving corps we have along with backs that "can and will catch" and a fullback that runs, blocks and catches.

Thinking out loud again. :)

Buc, you know how I feel about our D so won't be redundant.

LSU is staying a little bit "under the radar" imo. They will be the toughest team we play this year and could play them twice.

They are very physical and can run downhill. Like everyone has said, we have to put pressure on Mett...the GOOD news imo is the fact that Mett is not a threat to run the ball so should be a little easier to defend than Boyd and Shaw. We have to pin our ears back and go after him or he will pick our secondary apart. Still believe in our D for the SECOND half of the season but don't think we will be ready until then.....LSU comes in to Athens 2-3 weeks too early for my comfort level with the D.

The offense will again have to carry us....imo.

LSU WILL be the toughest team we play this year. We must be able to put pressure on the QB. We have had trouble with mobile QB's. He is a pure pocket passer who is very accurate when given time to check through multiple receivers. Looking for big game out of front 7. It WILL be a long day for our secondary if we can't put Metz on his backside a few times.

It will be a game of match ups and hopefully we can find enough to exploit. LSU is a big, physical team. Question is can our OL control line of scrimmage for long sustained drives.

Couple weeks to prepare, but don't look past N Texas. Coach 'em up.

Go Dawgs! GATA!

Feel sure that most of us are in agreement that Mettenberger does not pose the same problems in the running/scrambling area that we have faced in our first two games. Problem might be that Mettenberger "in my opinion" has the arm that the other two don't. All have good arms, Mettenberger right now looks like no later than second round NFL draft choice.

Do like the fact that Metterberger is a pocket passer. Brings me to this . . . . that is where Todd Grantham's resume seems to be the strongest.

At the end of the South Carolina game, noticed that our defensive front was pushing the Gamecocks offensive line back a step or two, and most of the time broke at least even in the second half.

If our offensive line is close to what it was in the Carolina game, AM will keep the LSU defense on the field. As many have probably noticed, we also can keep fast paced offensive teams on the sidelines. We too understand how to create matchup problems.

Natural for both teams fans to squirm a little bit. Two very good football teams.

Home field, like that. Experienced quarterback, like that. Running backs including fullback, like that. Receivers, like that.

We have some players that can and will make Metterberger uncomfortable in the pocket. That or several "holding calls". LSU will try to muscle us on the interior and run their big backs, works both ways.

Believe this game comes down to . . . . offensive line winning or holding serve. Think you were thinking along the lines of the offensive line wlayton. Trying to read between the lines. JMO.

Reading back through the posts, seems I said the same thing that TN Dawg said. Had not read his post prior to posting. Not a damn thing wrong with being on the same page.
