Hoping on Saturday in Columbia that we have a group that is as focused as the Europeans were coming down the stretch. :)

I want the team that played Vandy to show up in South Carolina and play ball I think they will.

Did not know this:

ATHENS, Ga. -- Georgia linebacker Alec Ogletree in his third year, and he is one of the team's most dynamics players, especially against the run.

For the past two years, South Carolina tailback Marcus Lattimore has gotten the best of the Georgia defense, rushing for a combined 358 yards in two Gamecocks wins. Lattimore has been dominant, basically unstoppable.

But here's the thing: Ogletree has never gotten his shot against Lattimore.

Two years ago, Ogletree was suspended for the South Carolina game. Last year, he was out with a broken foot. And he would have missed the Gamecocks again this year if the schedule had stayed as originally set. But the South Carolina game was moved back to Oct. 6, and Ogletree just returned from his four-game suspension. He showed how important he is to Georgia by racking up 14 tackles against Tennessee, a team high.

"I'm eager because he's a good competitor, and I'm a good competitor too," Ogletree said. "He's been working hard, just like me, and it's gonna be a good game."

Had he played two years ago, Ogletree's impact wouldn't have been huge. He was playing safety that year and was just a freshman, so Lattimore probably still would have rushed for 182 yards. But, last year, Ogletree, having moved to inside linebacker and much more comfortable in the defense, could have helped keep Lattimore from his 176-yard performance.

"It was frustrating for me not to be out there playing him. I felt like I could. But this is my opportunity this year," Ogletree said. "So I've just gotta go out there and do what I can for the team."

All that said, plenty of people would love to know how to stop Lattimore. He's a big running back who is adept at finding the hole and not going down to the first man. Or the second or third man. And even then he falls forward for an extra yard or two.

Georgia is hoping Ogletree can mitigate Lattimore's impact.

"Alec is a great athlete. He's fast, and he makes a lot of hustle plays. I think his ability will help us," fellow inside linebacker Christian Robinson said. "If Sanders (Commings) comes up, makes a tackle out in the flats and is holding on to him, and Tree comes over and knocks the pile down instead of letting him fall forward, we just saved two yards. And that could be the difference between a first down and fourth down. And that's huge for us."

Commings and 'Gurshall' honored

Senior cornerback Sanders Commings shared SEC co-defensive player of the week honors with Mississippi freshman linebacker Denzel Nkemdiche. Commings had two interceptions in the final six minutes to help seal Georgia's 51-44 win over Tennessee. Nkemdiche had 11 tackles, a sack and two forced fumbles in his team's 33-14 loss at Alabama.

Meanwhile, freshmen tailbacks Keith Marshall and Todd Gurley shared co-freshman of the week honors along with Texas A&M's Johnny Manziel. It was Marshall's first time being honored this year, but this week makes the third time Gurley has been an SEC freshman of the week.

Marshall had a game-high 164 yards on just 10 carries against Tennessee. The vast majority of it came on touchdown runs of 75 and 72 yards. Gurley also had a big game, racking up 130 yards on 24 carries, including three touchdowns. Gurley leads the SEC in rushing and scoring.

The pair are now regularly called "Gurshall" by teammates.

Lots of coverage in Columbia this Saturday as we all know wlayton. Most of these young men or many of these young players have aspirations of playing in the NFL. Well, this is one of the biggest stages they will play on prior to the NFL and some college championships.

Spurrier has a huge media following. A win in this game will improve his media attention 10 fold.

Many say coming out of high school that they want to play in the SEC because it is big time football. For all that have said that . . . . this game is looking you squarely in the eyes. You wish has come true.

Go Dawgs . . . . Coach'em up! :)

Bingo!!

Gotta tell ya Buc, I'm really nervous about our OL being able to block their front 4, much less their front 7. You (and others) have been more accurate about our OL so far this year than I have (happy about that for sure) but we haven't come close to facing a front like USC's. They are big, fast and nasty with arguably the 2 best DE's in college football. What really worries me is a situation like what happened in the UT game on Marshall's fumble.....missed block and getting hit so quickly, we drop the ball.

Imo.....we block 'em...we will win. Just not sure we can, guess we'll find out.

Key to the game for me.

wlayton much has been said and is still said about Clowney. No getting around the fact that he is a special player. I am not sold on the fact that Clowney is that much better all around than Taylor. I have gone back and watched some of Taylor's plays, the guy is a smart football player. Theus will have his hands full with Taylor.

If Theus can keep Devin Taylor on his outside shoulder, AM continue to step up in the pocket, we could make some noise in Columbia.

Know I keep harping about Will Friend, just really like this group of coaches. Grantham and his gang seem to be settling in, appears Friend is on the same path.

Don't really think that we are going to see a lot of razzle dazzle football. Believe both sides are going to line up and do what they do best. Crowd noise in their favor, unless . . . . . :)

AM and his group of receivers will put points on the board. Game might be higher scoring than some think. I also believe the higher the point totals, the more the game comes to us. If AM can get a second read on pass plays, our chances improve considerably. Don't think there will be many 3rd and 4th reads, especially early on.

This is the game that we might get to see more two tightend sets. Gurley and Marshall and UGA could profit from that setup. One old farts opinion.

Basically, imo, which team's OL plays the best will probably win the game.
