College Football Live (ESPN) featured UGA today. Very interesting what the panel had to say about our Dawgs, schedule, offense and defense. David Pollack is a regular member on the panel and I found a couple of his comments interesting today.
David is totally impressed with the way the defense has changed direction under Grantham. David knows a bit about defense, we watched him and came away with appreciation not only for the football player, the man he is. Can still picture David and Ray Drew standing together after we got the good news about Ray Drew signing with UGA. That story is yet to be told, maybe this season.
David also mentioned the offensive side and the talent that resides there now. One of the comments that he made that I think many of us have discussed before was this . . . . The offense needs to break out of the same play calling that has been in place for far too long. This is not kicking anyone to the curb, it does however make me and many others that I know happy to hear that coming from a very good, loyal UGA Football Player that left his mark on UGA and College football.
DP also made a point that moving Malcolm Mitchell from the offensive side of the ball to the defensive side shows just how much talent the offense has. I have to agree with DP on that point, very good point at that. I believe that this puts added pressure on the offensive coaches, especially when DP would never do or say anything that would hurt the Red and Black. This outstanding football player (once upon a time) is being totally honest on how he views the 2012 UGA Football Team. David mentioned the offensive line, he did not however come across with gloom and doom.
It appears that our schedule along with the talent that is on campus has gotten the attention of many folks in the media and forecasters. I agree with a comment that TN Dawg made a short time back. TN Dawg said that he did not care to hear about the soft schedule, and I have to agree. With Missouri and TAM coming into the conference, we got what appears to be another reprieve . . . Not having to face Alabama, LSU and Arkansas. UGA did not make this schedule up and submit it for approval, comes from the top. Appears that we have a real shot to return to Atlanta and face one of the three teams above that we did not have to play in the regular season.
Comes down to this on paper and internet chatter. I think that Mark Richt and Mike Bobo have more on their plates this year than last year when the “hot seat” was being discussed. Much pressure on the offensive coaches to maybe listen to a proven UGA Star, David Pollack, get away from the same old play calling, add a few more wrinkles and make the likes of Steve Spurrier have to study our team from an unknown standpoint. I am with you David Pollack as are many others.
Go Dawgs, coach’em up. . . .
