2012 STARTING LINEUP

The BIGGEST thing I can't understand or accept is why we aren't reloading on the OL every year. We reload at QB.....have always have good RB's.....WR's and TE's are a strength. WHY can't we field great OL's each and every year?......just DON'T get it.

And the playbook?......I AGREE with everyone that our variety of plays really is pathetic (just want to make that clear :) ).......but.....let's throw out another question.

Just how sophisticated can your play calling be when you OL is mediocre at best? We started 4 guards last year, no true tackles (pathetic). They couldn't open holes or protect AM for more than 2 seconds. With an OL like we had, I probably would have cut the playbook in half and thrown it is the garbage too (assuming Bozo had more than a one page playbook). Imo, if you have a true "stud" SEC OL, you can open up the playbook and run whatever you want, anytime you want (for the most part).

I've gone on record as saying that our season will go ONLY as our OL goes........does anyone buy into the possibility that CMR/Bozo were limited in the play calling because of the weakness in our OL????

Just sayin'......just askin'.....:)

wlayton when I look at the number of offensive linemen on our team, that is what bothers me the most. Very difficult for me to believe that we either made mistakes when pursuing these young men or flat out had the coaches attention too far into the positions you mention, and not where championships are won and lost.

I try not to say too much about AM, but when I read some of the posts on the internet, just justifies my thinking that too many out there posting and claiming to be football aficionados need to take that course over. To this day I believe that one of the main problems with AM was what happened to him against Auburn two games back. He is a brave young man, but he also understands pain and he has had a lot of that (pain) happen to him in my opinion because his offensive coaches don't understand the need for something other than quarterbacks and tailbacks.

Often I read where Mike Bobo is an excellent quarterback coach. That does not say to me that he is a good offensive coordinator, or someone that truly understands offensive line building. Mark Richt at some point needs to understand that either Mike Bobo or Mark Richt are falling short on the offensive side as being a "whole project".

An example of some of the things I have read about Mike Bobo. He is always described as being a good quarterback teacher. I will give him that, and also ask this question. How many very successful quarterbacks are in the league because of his teaching? If Matt Stafford had played for Texas, Alabama or any other college, would he still be playing in the NFL with the same promise that he is now showing? Matt Stafford has enormous talent, and one of the best arms that the NFL has to offer right now. Just because a coach is good with quarterbacks does not mean he is an offensive coordinator.

Appears to me that a glaring problem with the offensive side of the ball is not talent in the backfield or the "so-called" skill positions, the problem appears to be two (2) ex-quarterbacks trying to run the offense. My hope is that Friend is allowed to exercise his "skills" with as much talent recruited as Richt/Bobo have had in the "skilled" positions that they are so wrapped up with.

Takes me back to the first year Jarvis was on campus but could not play on Saturdays. He was eating the offensive side of the ball alive, totally disrupting what Richt/Bobo were trying to do. Is there not or was there not a lesson to be learned then and there? From where I sit, Mark Richt is a good recruiter, especially when it comes to quarterbacks and running backs. I guess Mike Bobo is a good quarterback coach and a pretty good recruiter. Where does that leave the rest of the team, on the offensive side?

Quoted from your post wlayton and I agree, for whatever that is worth.

Yep, and whose damn fault was that . . . . just saying, don't have to ask.

wlayton, that has been one of my problems for years. I just don't get why UGA can't be like other big time schools and just reload, not rebuild. If we have 10 to 25 scholrships each year, why can't we get 7 to 8 3 to 5 star players to play OL each year. I get so tired of each year UGA has to worry about its OL. where are the players from 2 years ago, from last year, what about some new players. What about next year, is it going to be the same problem when we have say 3 or 4 freshmen starting this year and come next year it will be a concern again. It just sounds like to me that its just a cop out to be able to blame some aspect of our team on for not going all the way.

Like Buc says, coach them up and teach them to block, tackle and play smart.

This is off subject, but it also just ticks me off. UGA baseball team no 9 in the US we do great against little schools, UCLA come to town and it looks like they are going to make a 3 games sweep. I mean can we not have a sucessful baseball or basketball team. As you all know, I can't stand USC, but they have won back to back NC in baseball, and have only lost one game and that was to Clesum. It looks like they will probably win 3 in a row, for I doubt UGA will be able to beat them it baseball. We went 50/50 in basketball and they had a lousy team.

duck, at some point folks (all of us) are going to realize that the defensive side of UGA football made a sweeping change and basically went from last to first pretty quickly. This year will be a season that we can judge our football team from a coaching and SEC quality stand point. Would love to go into Atlanta and play Alabama/LSU, what better guage of where we are in the SEC.

This is what yankeedawg1 said on his Friday post and I am in total agreement. Better words have not been spoken recently about what can happen, and if I read McGarity right, will not be allowed to happen again. McGarity came to Athens with "football knowledge" and will not be fooled, he has seen the SEC from a position of winning, yep, Florida football for 10 or so years. Change can be good, 10-4 again with our schedule will not be good.

This is CMB graduation year. He has to produce with the talent we have or CMR will have no choice. Mac will not ride this same horse for another season without seeing any major improvements.

My gut says all the slack in this chain is gone!

Good or bad we will not see another season of re-chew of the same old product.

wlayton, that question has been thrown out, and answered, many times over the past few years. When people suggest opening up the play book, they are not referring to a quantity of plays, they are wanting to see plays that play to our strengths, and help cover our weaknesses (the OL). There are plays that can work with a suspect OL. They have been covered here often but rarely attempted on field. Maybe some swing passes, WR screens, sweeps, misdirction runs. Plenty to choose from, but we see the same few plays every year, evry game, whether they work or not.

The SMART era CONTINUES!!!!!!
