I hope

Boise State brought something like 14 5th year seniors to that game. Our athleticism kept us in it for the first half. People who think the outcome would have been different with two players in the game are either a. football novices or b. smoking cherry flavored crack. Our O-Line looked like a sea-wall trying to hold back a tsunami. We were proof of the old saying that battle plans rarely survive the first encounter with the enemy.

The only consolation I take away from that game is that Boise State is finished. They will not be heard from again for a long time. Many will disagree with me because of their coaching staff, but you can't lose as much experience as they are losing and hang in D1. Goodbye, Boise State, it was nice knowing you.

Excellent observation thriller. Kid at quarterback was and is a special player/person. Probably the biggest thing Boise State has going for themselves now is "believing" . . . coming from several good years.

I agree that you can not hang winning or losing on any couple of players but I do believe a couple of players will make a difference in a game. What would our D line be like minus both JJ's? Just a thought

DAWGtm, don't know if I ever said it yet, but welcome aboard!

You are right - a couple of players can certainly change a game (Herschel Walker, Bo Jackson, Cam Newton, come IMMEDIATELY to mind), but not in that game. We just got completely dusted off by a bunch of players, many of whom had probably already graduated, and had been together since their freshman years, many years ago. We just weren't in sync the whole game. Simple plays for us got blown up by very experienced players on the other side, on both sides of the ball. Boise State players weren't wondering who was going to do what and where - they knew what each other was doing the way old married couples do. Our young guys played lights out just to keep the margin to 14 points.

I'm not making excuses - better coaching and having those two guys could have gotten it even closer, and maybe even INTERESTING . . . but I just don't believe two players alone would have turned that game completely in our favor.

For this poster to lay the final score or win or loss on these two players, makes me wonder why some folks watch football. I am dead serious. Boise State is a very good football team. They have been together as a unit for some time now. They have finally decided that they need to do something different, now Boise State gets real interesting.

The loss of Ogletree really can't be overstated. He was going to be the key to the defense in that game with his versatility as a former DB playing ILB. Not surprisingly, much of Boise's passing success came on short and intermediate passes over the middle against Ogletree's replacements that weren't expected to play at all. Boise did nothing on offense until he was out of the game.

Don't forget that Rambo was also suspended for that game. Between losing him and Rambo, that's 2 of UGA's 3 best defensive players that weren't on the field while Boise was able to do things on offense. Being without Rambo was something coaches expected and could scheme around, but losing Ogletree, especially with the lack of depth at ILB at that time, was really a killer.

How many on this board accept the above bold statements. Just curious. Bet there is some good conversation for those that want to participate in football splatter. No question that some will choose not to enter the arena, that same arena that Richt said the outsiders really don't know anything about. Was Richt right? See lots of folks posting here from time to time, thoughts??

Our D was flat and still hadn't begun to gel. Plus as much as we love CTG, Boise isn't
lacking for good schemes and they have the athletes perfect for the scheme they run.
Plus while not Tree, we found out later in the season we had some LB help playing
behind him. Would those two have made a difference? Maybe some, but I think we still
would have lost. Anyone can say that Tree might have slowed down some of the short
passing game, but that doesn't mean in any way that Boise would not have had yet
another answer.

Truth be told... no one will ever know for certain what kind of difference it would
have made, but honestly... this sort of speculation is foolish. You change one single
play in any game and everything else that happens takes a different path from that
point on. To buy this sort of argument you have to assume, and it's a pretty big
assumption, that Boise would not have had a decent counter if, and it's a pretty
big if as well, Tree and Rambo would have actually been able to shut down what
Boise did. Personally, I still think Boise would have put up 28-31 points. Hell..
take away the short clock eating passes and they may have scored 38-41 going over
the top and scoring quicker. We got beat... let it go. No excuses, nor any what if's.

I think my pop used to say "If frogs had wings they wouldn't bump their bums when
they landed" ... or something like that, lol

I am going to have to disagree. Ogletree and Rambo would have made a difference in that game. By no means am I stating that we would have won, because BSU is a very good football team, but I will say I believe their offense would not have had the success they did.

I get sick and tired of hearing that 1 player doesn't make a team. No it doesn't, but he sure as hell can impact the performance of that team. Some players are not replaceable. No. 9 is one of those. AJ Green was one of those. They are not average college football players.

If 1 or 2 players dont make a difference, please explain the Colts season, or why the Packers offense struggled after they lost their best WR? Please don't tell me that the Colts would have been just as bad with Manning, or that its different because it is the pro's. Impact players are impact players.

There was not an excuse for our offense, and I will agree with the coaching on that side of the ball, it was very poor.
