Wart, I think you are somewhat agreeing but trying hard to find a way to diagree. Like stated in the original post, not a fan of coach in waiting titles, because they mean nothing. That is why I want something going on behind the scenes. I don't know when CMR is going to be ready to retire, but if he knows a particular date, would like for him, CTG, and Mac to get together and discuss.
As far as salaries, I believe CTG makes 750,000. There are a handful of jobs out there that I would leave that type of money for. You go to a rebuilding school, you might walk into a Dooley situation. Believe someone said he might have bit off more than he can chew. I agree with that, and if he flops again next year, he is going to be fired. Does anyone think his resume will appeal to any big time football programs? He is going to be starting over.
Buc, you have hit the nail on the head to my reasoning behind this idea. CTG is already establishing strong recruiting ties. He needs to continue to develop them. Part of the problem with bringing in someone else, is that you usually have an entire new staff coming in as well. CTG would be keeping a lot of the same staff already on hand. A lot of these coaches have developed strong recruiting relationships. As far as the other stuff, does anyone doubt CTG can lead? I sure don't. IMHO, he is already the HC of the defense. That is his side, and he has total control, which he should.
There is no way of knowing when CMR is going to step down. Hence, the here's to wishing in the original post. I do think he is too prideful to leave a program in worse shape than he found it. That I respect. People can question his character all day long. The man looked adversity right in the eye, and refused to let the public know it was affecting him. He refused to let it change the core of who he is. He found a way to get the water from continuing to come in the ship.
