CTG coach in waiting

CTG coach in waiting was created by AllDawgs5
First let me start off by saying, I am not much of a fan of naming a coach in waiting. However, I would like to see something behind the scenes go down on this one. I think we need to pay CTG whatever is needed in order for him to hang around with the understanding that when CMR is done (which I believe will be in a couple of years) that CTG takes over the reigns.

I respect Richt because I think he knows he will only be around for a couple of years. He could have left last year, or this year, when the program was down like the urban's of the world. He didn't though. He didn't run from the negativity like so many others do. I think he wants UGA to be stronger when he steps down, than it was when he stepped up. I believe he will leave when his youngest son graduated High School.

CTG is a helluva coach. But he still has some things he needs to learn before he just steps into a head coaching role. There are certain situations CTG must realize aren't appropriate for a HC. I have never seen Saban, Miles, Tressel, etc. at mid field ready to square off. Love the fire, but he has to stay bigger than those type of situations. Do you think Saban's players have never been trashed talked to by other coaches? Also, never seen an elite HC giving another teams kicker the choke sign. He needs to learn how to handle those type of situations, and I believe he will.

This would be a perfect transition for UGA football IMHO. Here's to wishing.

Dead on AD5.....need to find a way to keep him but there's a learning curve to stepping in as HC.

I don't think I'd go that far. I believe that when the time comes to replace CMR, we need to bring in a proven head coach who is ready to win immediately.

Yeah.. Definitely want to keep him, but there is no
guarantee a great DC equals a great HC. Just not
a big fan of naming HC in waiting. It sometimes causes
tension as well If things don't go on each others timeline
expectations. Do want to do all we can to keep him..I just hope it doesn't take that. I would much rather have
him stay as DC, and evaluate the HC position when
needed.

Unless Richt just flat out announces I'm gone on this date, no if, ands, or buts allowed. In that case though,
the need to evaluate the possible choices is going to
logically start square in Grantham's corner anyway, and
he's a confident enough fellow to let his case for the job to stand on it's own.

So basically.. If Richt doesn't announce a definite date
of departure, then I would prefer not to and don't want to think he's going to demand it. He shouldn't.. You let him
know obviously he has a leg up on being that guy, but
until you know when Richt is leaving..kinda pointless.
Until you know the date, this could be a 10 year thing and with everything that can happen in X number of
years.. it's sort of a pointless title. CTG may not want
to wait 10 years. I wouldn't expect him to if he had chances long before then. Can't hold a man back.

Then if Richt does announce a definite date... like right now, because we are talking about naming CTG HC in waiting right now, then the search begins immediately
and CTG either has the case or he doesn't. If he doesn't,
then you wouldn't want to be making him the next HC anyway.

Seems pretty pointless all around. I think CTG might even agree. Just give him money to stay as DC....
lots of it.

Seem to remember a certain Defensive Coach at the University of Georgia that left and became quite successful in the State of Georgia. Never quite made the jump at the appropiately named "Junkyard Dawg University".

Everyone has thoughts on how the system should operate.

Richt came to UGA with no head coaching history. Guess the same could be said about others, VD for example.

Appears to me that those in charge should be careful not to let history repeat itself, especially when the history of which I speak started at UGA with a Defensive Coach that was "too wild" for some.
