What Paterno probably thought in the very best case was that what was reported to him was an exaggeration or a misunderstanding, and it could be swept under the table as to not tarnish his beloved PSU.
Worst case is he figured it would come to an end after he was caught, and it could be swept
under the table as to not tarnish his beloved PSU.
See the commonality here... "and it could be swept under the table as to not tarnish his beloved PSU."
Besides the obvious fact that there extends a moral obligation beyond man created legal requirements,
I have something else to add...
Innocent (but incredibly stupid and naive) mistake or willing cover up... Paterno had to go.. immediately, and I don't give a rat's behind if it was falling on a sword or being thrown under
a bus. Those jacklegs protesting it are just like Paterno... more concerned with protecting a
legacy. They are concerning themselves with that more than they are concerning themselves with
children who have to deal with this stuff for the rest of their lives. I don't give a flying
hoot about what happened to Paterno. He more than anyone else in college football owned and
ruled the Penn St empire, and it happened on his watch and he can't claim a lack of any
knowledge as even a feeble excuse.
Want to do something productive with it? Stop worrying about protesting the treatment of
JoePa and put some effort into organizations designed to prevent the sexual abuse of children.
They are the victims here... not Joe Paterno.
God Bless and Go Dawgs
