On "wearing a hat before it fits," the list of folks who had not been head coaches before having tremendous success in their first head coaching jobs is long and illustrious. It includes both Mark Richt and Vince Dooley. It includes Steve Spurrier and Barry Switzer. And yes, it includes Erk Russell.
That said...let's wait out the rest of the season before we make judgment. Like the man said, "Hold on, now, let's figure this thing out!"
