It is always good to watch sadlerdawg and wlayton discuss Georgia football. Good points on both sides and the discussion always makes me think about what could be or will be. On the sidelines watching two men that understand the game, can't get much better than that.
Muschamp takes the head coaching job at Florida. First piece of business . . . hire a offensive coordinator. Wonder what Meyer thought about that. Urban had lost the coach to Miss State that had allowed him to stick his chest out and move on to ESPN dollars. Single biggest mistake Florida Athletic Director Jeremy Foley made was letting Mullen get away. Mullen leaves and Meyer goes what, 9/4, add to that Mullen kicks Florida's butt. Of course he put a notch on his pistol with a UGA tag.
A lot of folks think that you have to have a big name to be a successful coach. Can't agree with that and can back it up easily enough.
Texas is getting all of the five star athletes that they want, they are like Southern Cal, huge base of athletes to choose from. There is one problem with Texas as I see it, much like what I think I see at Georgia. Head man can recruit, proven point. He has been smart enough in the past to surround himself with coaches that can coach. Now he has lost his coach in waiting, bet here is that National Championships will not come so easily. Lots of money in Texas, but money is not always the answer. Mullen at Miss State is a good example of that.
Richt's achilles heel in my opinion and others on this board is his lack of knowledge when it comes to hiring assistants. In my book Rict gets an F, not stars in that category. Recruiting, Richt gets an A+, five stars. Let me back up on the recruiting, someone or more than one assistant has dropped the ball when it comes to filling holes. Some coaches go for the best athlete, I like recruiting for need. Maybe some of the fault was with Searels, I don't know, we will know more when Texas hits the gridiron.
As far as Bobo, Richt will have to decide whether or not Bobo leaves. Consequences there are not only will Bobo be gone, Richt will follow him. McGarity cannot let this program slide any further, heads will roll.
Great recruiting means nothing if you cannot or do not know how to coach them up. I am sure we are going to see more fire from more than one person this season. Grantham does not need to add any more wood to the fire, he is full of piss and vinegar every day his feet hit the floor. I hope to see that attitude embraced by the offensive side of the ball. Soon these young men will be knocking the hell out of each other, calling each other names and fighting. When the season starts, they will love each other again. That's what I am talking about.
