Hey Wlayton, I agree with you on CTG or ks not being our next HC. I am hoping we will not need a new one after this season is over, But if the worse does happen I am thinking of Dan Mullen, for one he is a Good coach, two he was with AD Mac at uf. So maybe He can get CDM to over here. just a thought. GO DAWGSSSSSSSS!!!!!!

OSD, certainly can't argue your logic. Mullen IS a very good coach and you have a great point AND he is a proven commodity.......

I just can't GET past that he was a GATOR.......seriously, that's my only hang-up with him.

Buc, I truly like CTG as well.......but geez, 2 years ago he was just a D-line coach. Just not sure he has the organiztional skills YET to be a HC and I'm not willing to wait and chance it.......give me successful experience. Gary Paterson is outstanding imo. I can't even imagine what GP and his staff could do with our talent.....mind boggling.

Understand wlayton. There is no disagreement with me on Patterson being a really good coach. Went back and looked closely at the competition level that he has faced since 2000 and what those teams did on the football field. Then took a look at this years schedule for TCU. TCU should not lose a single game on their schedule, unless Boise State has something for them.

This is where the rubber meets the road for me when I mention Grantham. I have seen his fire, I have heard what the players have to say about him. I have also watched his interviews, he knows well what is going on when the cameras are rolling.

I feel that Richt made a huge mistake with BVG not staying, however BVG knew that his services could be used at a higher level. BVG also took a short look at South Carolina, knew there was more out there. Meanwhile we rocked along with . . . . .

Been around UGA football for a couple of years, this is the first time in many years that I have felt we have the mojo back. Everyone has an opinion and there are reasons for that. Experience is the greatest teacher whether we work the stock market or repair automobiles.

I just happen to be one of those that thinks we would make a huge mistake if the UGA job "should" come open and let Grantham get away.

We will see what Grantham can and will do this year. He coaches one side of the ball. My eyes will be on things like turnovers and takeovers. Beginning to think that Erk's style has returned. Just for the record . . . . Erk should have been the head coach at UGA. We only need to take a look at what he accomplished after being removed in my opinion from UGA.

Patterson has a strong background coaching the defensive side of the ball. He however has not coached against SEC caliber teams since 2000. That is not a slant, those are facts.

When folks around the country talk about SEC football versus any other conference, one thing all will hear, defense. That only changed at UGA when we did not have an Erk or BVG. Say it again, I would hate to see Grantham leave without first giving him more than a year or two in Athens.

Hey Wlayton, Yeah I certainly dont like the gaytor connection either, The only thing I hate worse than the gaytors are the yellow jackets. But Im just thinking thats probably ADM s first choice. And Buc I also love CTG Fire and passion, I feel like you must have that as a DC, Im just not sure they would make him an HC IMO. But who knows, lol I just hope We can get this thing turned around this yr!!! anyway GO DAWGSSSSSSS!!!! :) !!

I hear ya Buc and feel things may be "different" this year as well.

You know as well as I do that there is a WHOLE lot more to being a HC than just "fire" and "kicking a$$ attitides". Fire and the kicking a$$ part is very much needed but organizational skills, game planning, handling administration, recruiting, time management, the press, alumni and us fans takes a balancing act with precision and level headedness (sp? lol).

CTG may or may not be a great coach.......yet but at this point in UGA football, I, for one, don't want to be flipping coins for my HC.

wlayton, we just don't see eye to eye on who may or may not be the next head coach at UGA.

Most, and I think I can safely say that probably 90% of the folks that are loyal to this board have changed their opinion of Richt one time or another. Real easy to dig up old posts and lay that out.

Mark Richt came to UGA and his previous experience was offensive coordinator at FSU. Thrilled the hell out of me, I watched what the FSU offense did under his guidance. Anyone who reads this board regularly knows what my feelings are for the man that hired him. It worked . . . for a while. Turns out, now this is my opinion, Richt got lost soon after the hard tails left and the sunshine boys moved to Athens. Richt was lost and that did not start just a couple of years ago. That point was proven when McGarity came on board and said this is the way we are going to do business. Next person to leave the coaching ranks was another of Richt's friends. Tired of the talk about being a good, honest man. That was and is all good . . . . Richt was hired to coach UGA football and maybe do a bit better than his "real" coaching ability allows.

Looking over TCU's record since 2000 or before, the competition played gives me a glimer of hope that their coach would stroll into the SEC and kick ass. I don't buy that. All of us are in the same wagon, the system has changed to such an extent that ONE PLAYER can attend a school and get a coach that was roundly booed by the home folks at Abuurn when he arrived, several million dollars later in his pocket. Football is not the same game it was 10 years or even 5 years ago.

What needed to happen and it appears to me did happen is this. . . . . Grantham was like the fifth pick on Richt's list. What the hell does Richt know about defensive football? He turned that half of his team over to Grantham and from what I can see the last several years of decline he turned the offense over to Bobo. Where the hell has UGA's coach been? After McGarity came on board Richt said that now he "saw the light". It is about time when you are rolling in cash and are fixing to sell one of your million dollar properties on the lake.

There is more positive talk about UGA football right now than I have seen in several years. Folks are excited about JTII, and he is no different than Grantham, both are kick ass. You want to come into Athens and puke, by God we will see that you do. Tired of players using the school and not coming together as a team. Real hard for these young fellows to hit that weight room after the BMOC days in high school. Don't give a damn how good you were in high school, this is the SEC and folks like JTII and Grantham know how to prepare you for what they know you will face on Saturday between the Hedges.

At this point in UGA history, if Richt was fired tomorrow, and Grantham was hired, I would do hand stands and that is impossible for me at this point.

Here is where I think you and I are at. We both see things from a different angle. I think you are very successful in the corporate world. I would say to you that many of us have traveled that road and had many face to face discussions about the right path. You and I will not decide the outcome of UGA football, but I suspect we have thoughts on how the program should be handled. This is where duck and I agree on one point. I am tired of the same chatter year after year. Apparently McGarity had the same thoughts.

I would say this, I think it would be flipping a coin to bring Patterson to Athens. I am not sure that he measures up to all of the things in your last post about leadership and so forth. He is a head football coach, don't know much about his board skills. Chances are you do, I don't. I see a coach with a winning record in areas that are less than comparable to the SEC. One man's thoughts.

Grantham would not be my first choice, but I would take him over Richt.

If Richt left I am not sure who I would want. I know I would want a defensive minded coach. Build the team on an oppressive, hated filled defense and then hire a really smart offensive guy.

If the defense is formidable then 11 limp wristed Tech students can win on offense. Look at the Ravens in their Superbowl year. Or Tampa Bay.

I want a defense so mean people at the Hague start asking questions about potential war crimes for making all the orange teams cry.
