Reading a lot about Coach Richt and the \"hot seat\". I am one that thinks CMR has probably for the first time, in a long time, put the puzzle together, or almost together. There will always be changes in the coaching staff, to be expected.
Most of us have not watched Coach Grantham or paid attention to his college days. Many of us know more about Coach Grantham because of his days with the Dallas Cowboys. Not sure how many paid a lot of attention to CTG when he was coaching at VaTech. Also, not sure how many really paid close attention to CTG when he was the defensive coordinator at Cleveland. When he was hired by Jerry to run the defensive line in Dallas, he became recognized for several reasons. Lots of talent, a specific area that he coached and there he really earned his \"media spurs\". LOTS AND LOTS OF TALENT.
In my opinion, UGA's fortune cookie was opened, it had CTG's name on the slip of paper. How much CMR really, really knew about CTG at that point . . . . we can all guess on that one. Appears that outside sources played a major role in CTG and CMR getting together. One of the reasons many of us play the \"lotto\" . . . . never know for sure when the right numbers will fall in place. From all that I have read, most folks that have watched this process progress since the hiring of CTG, we are in agreement. CMR and CTG can and will make each other better, coaches are competitive also, why else would either one be involved in the SEC.
There will come a time when CTG is going to be offered a head coaching job, and looking at the talent that seems to be moving in the direction of Athens since his arrival, it will not be very long. I figure at that point, many of us are going to be very disappointed if he moves on. A lot of coaches run the 3/4 defense, however, some are much better than others. I hear the players, coaches and reporters talk about CTG's fire on the field . . . I also hear how much respect he is getting from those that are in his direct line of fire. If a coach is respected both on and off of the field, tells me he is one of the special ones.
I keep looking over the UGA roster, once or twice a week, and I keep seeing folks that are suited to CTG's 3/4. Many of the players have the height and ability to gain weight and play more than one position for UGA. We will see a lot of that this year. Feel sure that there is going to be a lot of substituting, staying fresh without losing much in the way of a player's ability. CTG said that every player wearing the Red and Black, regardless of year can and will play if earned. I love competition, and the more I read about CTG, convinced that is what he is all about.
Another good feeling I have about the recently recruited and commited players is the way they seem to be bonding and texting friends about the \"change\" that has happened in Athens. There will be disappointments, have a feeling though we are in for more of the \"winning fortune cookies\".
Side note, both David Hale and Leather Helmet have some good viewing of potential Dawgs.
Sorry to be so long, just seems to be a bit quiet recently. . . .
