Some Thoughts

Good read LimeyDawg. How is the book coming?

Reading through the posts, found a lot of interesting thoughts and suggestions. The common ground on this board and others seems to be that Coach Richt is a good and capable man. The fault with him seems to be his selection of coaching talent.

Almost to a person on this board, WM should be gone. Slightly different but close is MB should be gone. If CMR is going to have a problem with talent selection, he will fit in the above category in short order. Last couple of years close to zero votes for CMR leaving. That is not the case any more and it will only get worse with the current cast of (coaches/characters).

The single biggest improvement on our team that I have witnessed is the Special Teams. Some how, someone got into a coaches ear and let Blair Walsh kick the effective way. Anyone notice the improvement in kickoffs in the end zone or on the goal line. Will say it again, thanks to an outside source that once kicked for UGA, probably the reason for this success. There are coaches out there, just need to open ones eyes and make decisions. Thanks RR.

Ball comes out to the 20. What does UF do? 7 points. Wonder if coaching had anything to do with that, or maybe UF is too good for us. For sure the offense can't be blamed for leaving the defense in a lurch.

All coaches are not meant to be head coaches. Not all assistant coaches are cut out to be offensive or defensive coordinators. Nothing wrong with being a position coach, one can draw a great deal of pride coaching one group and enjoying the results.

I hope that stubborn does not raise its ugly head for the Red and Black. If so the walls will surely come tumbling down. Rebuilding is not a pretty picture as so many of us know.

You know ... that guy Steve Spagnuolo is obviously not HC material (NY Giants DC - beat patriots in superbowl - took HC job with St Louis - hasn't won a real game since). Both he and the Rams might jump at the chance for a graceful exit. If you make the right sales pitch then he might just decide to wear a bulldog helmet. A lot less stress than NFL, a lot bigger crowds, a lot more spirit and passion from the fans ... UGA has an awful lot of good things to offer that the NFL can't match.

Let's face it. If you want to be a top team in the SEC these days then you need NFL or better coaching ... and Steve is a good one.

I am not saying that I think the answer is to get rid of CMR, but it is interesting to look at the available coaches. I really like Patterson at TCU and his staff. Think he runs a wide open, hit you in the mouth, style of play that i enjoy watching. Just don't see KS, or WMuschamp leaving their schools, but who knows. As far as defensive coordinators go, I know it is far fetched but i like Bud Foster from VT. I am just not sure either way with CMB. I would like to see his play calling with the luxury of having a defense, not playing catch up. The SEC has always been D strong (except for us the last couple of years) so I think that an offense may have to punt a couple of times without being down 2 scores after they do it.

Realistically, I don't think CMR has the luxury of making one adjustment and then waiting to see results before making another. The rest of the conference is getting substantially better and he has already fallen noticeably behind. Staying the same will result in an even worse record.
