He should be suspended for the season!!!!!!!!!!!
For the season? For life. He should also be sued and prosecuted. That wasn't unsportsmanlike, it was a battery.
I'm sure the RX means that you are not a lawyer
To be guilty of battery, you actually have to batter someone which did not happen.
If someone takes a swing at you and misses, you'd be hard pressed to proove a battery charge.
I realize that it sounds like I am defending Spikes, but I'm just trying to keep it real. What he did was wrong. Everyone knows that including him. The negative press is a pretty severe punishment to him and the school. Nobody in the media cares about Tebow breaking two records in the game or Cooper's amazing catch. It's all about Spike's dirty play. So yes, there has been a stiff penalty to the incedent.
I am happy for all of you that you have something to focus on and take away from this game other than the fact that the Dawgs stink!
Spike's dirty play is the incident caught on tape. It is not the incident itself that is important. What is important is that it was caught on tape and the intent is obvious. The other two hundred eye gougings do not matter. This is the one where the media has absolute proof of intent.
The media has turned this into a morality test for Urban Myers. The specific thing they want to know is if Urban Myers is willing to accept unethical behavior in order to win. Myers is failing their test and the Gator program will probably be portrayed in sports media as morally bankrupt for quite some time.
Personally, if a bulldog did this I would want the player suspended from the team for a minimum of two weeks. College kids don't fully know the difference between right and wrong. It's really, really, REALLY important that their role models and heroes don't send the wrong messages. Itr's bad enough that so many kids think its cool to be gangsta. We don't need to teach them that eye gouging is cool too. When the spotlight is on, you have to do what looks right. That's life. It's for the greater good.
Myers right now is failing his test.
