My problem Dapolla lies in the fact that Bobo seems to win despite his play calling. Take the win last night against South Carolina, they showed a statistic towards the end of the game showing balls thrown for more than 15 yards and balls thrown inside 15. I believe the statistic was roughly 80-90% of the passes Georgia threw were inside 15 yards including the unbelievable amount of swing passes. We did the same against Oklahoma State, we would need 10 yards for a first down and the play would be a swing pass to the RB. It doesn't make sense at all.
Now we know that OSU isn't that great because unranked Houston put up 21 in the 4th quarter to beat them. So if a team like Houston can move the ball on OSU all day long, why couldn't we? My only guess is 3 things:
1. Joe Cox can't throw that far.
2. The coach has no confidence in Cox's ability to throw.
3. The play calling is just ridiculous.
I've never been a big Bobo fan, even in his days at QB I was glad to be rid of him. Maybe he just irks me, but I see him as a homegrown guy who got a job simply because he played here, not because he had any coordinating acumen. I won't say that at times we've beaten good teams and beaten them big, but this is the SEC... our players are the best in the country. How many times on a 3rd down did Knowshown Moreno get the ball and end up scampering for 10-15 yards, but the play that was designed was a run on 3rd and 7. Unfortunately we don't have Moreno anymore, we have Richard Samuel who ran hard as can be expected last night, but still he's a far cry from Moreno. So all I'm saying is the play calling has been atrocious since Bobo took over, but our overall talent has helped us overcome the inconsistency with our play calling.
Richt was an OC for FSU, so why isn't he fixing this? I can only assume its because he's just the nicest guy in the world... and I love him for that, but I still think Bobo is a very bad coordinator.
