This is my first post on here, and I have been lurking for about 8 months now, reading posts and observing people's opinions and I thought it may be time to jump in here.
UGAChemDawg: with all due respect, and being the new guy here I'll temper my comments: saying \"good riddance\" to the seniors is about the most assinine thing I've read on this forum. These seniors were a huge part of the reason why we were ranked #1 before the season started. They certainly were not singlehandedly to \"blame\" for our season and they certainly didn't decide that season in the last game. Saying \"good riddance\" to our seniors shooting blindfolded in the dark if you are trying to use that logic to affix blame to why we had a season that did not live up to its expectations. I've read your posts here and I honestly cannot tell if you are a Georgia fan that is super charged with emotion and you make statements based on those emotions or if you are a troll just trying to stir the pot up. I mean no disrespect in that statement, I'm just being honest.
Prozack: I've been watching football and analyzing the game since I was old enough to know what laces were. I know the difference in all those defensive schemes you stated and I can tell you that Willie Martinez is not the entire reason that Georgia had their season, but he was a HUGE part of it. The defensive coordinator's job, injuries or not, is to prepare his defense to face the opponent, break down their offensive schemes and coordinate his game plan with how the offense's strengths can break down the opposing defense. Martinez has consistently shown that he has absolutely NO gameplan other than to continually rush three and give the receivers entirely too much zone coverage. For us to consistently score 30+ points in a game and to have the game be close is ridiculous. If Coach Richt likes him, fine & dandy, but this is becoming entirely too similar to the Bobby Bowden & Jeff Bowden scenario at FSU. Everyone in their right mind knew that Jeff had to go, but Bobby was loyal to him. Coach Martinez may be a talented coach at SOMETHING, but it sure isn't preparing our defense and actually dissecting the opposing offense and preparing accordingly. I'm sorry, but I could not disagree with your defense of Coach Martinez more. I agree that he is not fully to blame, because you cannot blame one person, player, head coach or coordinator for a season's outcome, but Martinez has made Georgia look pathetic in too many outings this season. He has allowed the defense to bleed allowed points and allowing the rushing yardage against GaTech was just the icing on the embarassing cake that was our defensive season. There was absolutely NO, NONE, ZIP, ZILCH, ZERO, NADA reason under any circumstances for us to allow that kind of yardage by Tech. I know injuries happen, but hells bells, that's why you recruit TALENT. That's why young players get full rides to places like Georgia: to come in and play college ball at their position! It's up to the coaches to coach up that young talent and get them ready to play. Coach Martinez has not done that this season in any shape, manner or form.
If we're going to start blaming people, there's plenty to go around for a lot of people, including our fans who are bashing our players and telling them good riddance; players who have created a lot of great memories for us Georgia fans over the last few years. Players that are the same ones that made us proud to go out & buy our Sports Illustrated's with our Dawgs on the cover.
I am as disappointed with our season as the next person, but let's get serious here and start looking at reality. It starts with Willie Martinez and goes from there.
