After all this talk about how we struggled against SC yet no talk about the schedule of Oklahoma maybe some of the voters should actually do some research....Here are SC's team stats...... OFFENSE DEFENSE
OFFENSE DEFENSE
Points/Game 25.5 (126th) 12.0 (37th)
Total Yards/Gm 347.0 (128th) 181.5 (13rd)
Rush Yards/GM 131.5 (129th) 112.0 (93rd)
Pass Yards/GM 215.5 (109th) 69.5 (7th)

Now here is those of Oklahomas last opponent......Washington
OFFENSE DEFENSE
Points/Game 18.5 (175th) 36.0 (194th)
Total Yards/Gm 289.5 (176th) 485.5 (218th)
Rush Yards/GM 114.0 (159th) 196.5 (185th)
Pass Yards/GM 175.5 (155th) 289.0 (209th)

I'm just sayin......wouldnt it be great to face teams like this on a week in and week out besis? Look at OU's schedule.....its WEAK!!!! I know, I know its a long season!

I soooo agree but they never look at those kind of stats, just the ending score. I would expect the number one rated defense in the SEC, (the strongest conference) of a team playing in desperation for some respect and identity after a tough loss to play well. Even looking at THE USC their schedule has them playing only 2 top 25 teams while the Dogs are playing 5 yet the talking heads insist Georgia will have an uphill battle to take 1st. The destiny of the season however does not rest with the polls or talking heads but with the players. I believe we will pull it off and my hope is we will play for the NC against as the number 2 team against a number one ranked USC. Let's introduce them to hard nosed SEC football!!! :woohoo:

Been there, done that :P

USC is 4-0 versus SEC during Caroll's tenure.

In September 2002, USC defeats Auburn 24-17
In August 2003, USC wallops Auburn 23-0
In September 2005, USC drowns Arkansas 70-17
In September 2006, USC demolishes Arkansas 50-14 (Arkansas was SEC Western Division champion)

LordVader speaketh profoundly...
Say what you will about Oklahoma, Ohio State or anyone else, but USC is to me the ultimate reality check. They are the ultimate team at present and over the last few years. Not so with their conference; the SEC is the best from top to bottom, but USC has the best team and program over time (say the last five or six years).

It appears to me that not only is UGA moving closer to USC's level, but the entire SEC is heading that way as well. MNC's to UF (cough, sputter, hack, ugh...hurts to utter the words...) and LSU the last 2 years support this opinion.

It's easy to be No. 1 when you don't play a SEC schedule. To diminish the rigors of playing in the SEC is without reason. Playing one game against a SEC team is one thing, going off to war every week is another.
Not to disparage USC, a great team, but the attrition of playing in the Southeastern Conference is something they have never endured. We get beat up and suffer from that.
Five teams in the top ten, what other conference can match that? Top to bottom, the SEC is the benchmark of college football. Anybody who disputes that is not interested in objectivity, regardless of all the media's desire to wish otherwise.
That's why winning the SEC Championship means more than winning the BCS.

With all due respect, no you have not. USC has yet to face a top-twenty SEC team and faced only one ranked SEC team (#22 Auburn, in 2002) during that time. USC has NEVER faced more than one SEC team in a year under Pete Carroll. Also, in that time, USC has never faced a Pac-10 schedule as difficult as even Ole Miss does playing an SEC schedule. During that time, USC has never faced more than three other Pac-10 teams who were even ranked (they did this once), and only once have they faced two Pac-10 teams ranked in the top 10. This year alone, we are scheduled to play four other teams in the SEC who are ranked in the top ten. We average 3.33 ranked SEC teams per year on our schedule, and three times have played at least two SEC teams who were in the top ten.

The fact is, LordVader, that you feast on the Wazzous and Oregon States of the world, and that Notre Dame -- your biggest regular-season out-of-conference opponent -- has been down during Carroll's tenure. USC is a good team...a GREAT team. But you will never convince anyone on this board that USC has \"been there and done that\" where an SEC schedule is concerned because your level of competition is quite simply pathetic when compared to what Georgia, Florida, LSU and Ole Miss go through on a week-in, week-out basis.
