I've been gone for 2 weeks so I had a lot of reading to get caught up on the forum.
BTW, I'm so sorry Wlayton, Sadler, & Average, that me & my styrofoam cooler missed yall at the UK game. As I feared, my friends & therefore myself were late leaving ATL & I didn't get to Athens until 10:30 & missed you guys & the Dawg Walk. Jeez! 1st game next year, GA Southern I believe, cool ones for all are on me, no doubt about it!
I did witness the 7th consecutive NATS swatting in person from the 3rd row from the top of Bobby Dodd Stadium. Man, I never knew tailgating at the Varsity could be so much fun! It was another great day to be a Georgia Bulldog & especially sweet for me cause I myself am a \"helluva an engineer\" that turned down GT's acceptance of my college application out of high-school & my entire company (all 6 of em') are GT graduates. Needless to say, I wore my Red & Black this Monday much to their dismay. Best line of the day while tailgating at the Varsity. Some tourist type walked down the sidewalk near the corner of Spring St. & North Ave. around 10AM and asked her companion, \"where does GT play their home games?\"
Man, the Varsity lot looked like Athens, GA on game day. Yech fans just don't have any passion. I didn't see a single Tech fan til' around 11AM for THEIR biggest game of the year, LAME!
Anyways, What a post! My mind is all mushy just from reading all of this. Anyways, my 2 cents:
1) The sorry 9 + decent 2 conference (aka Big 10) should be banished from NC consideration until they play a conference championship game. Same for the SLACK-10 & the Big Least. It's UNFAIR for Big 12, SEC, ACC schools to have to play a 13th game on a neutral field against a QUALITY opponent & get punished when they lose. THIS IS THE FIRST CORRECTION NEEDED IN THE CURRENT SYSTEM!!! It infuriates me that the Suckeyes will likely get to play for the MYTHICAL NC w/their pansy schedule. The same pansy schedule they will have next year, & the next year, & the next, til' hell freezes over! Side note: I am sure that the Big 10 commish is the devil in disguise. Until the conference commisioners correct this fallacy, I will NEVER acknowledge a Big10, Pac10, or Big East team as NC. Auburn got totally SCREWED in 04', UGA got screwed in 02', UF almost got screwed last year & either, UGA or UF will get screwed next year under this BS (what's the C stand for again) system! It doesn't work folks, it sucks!
2) Without some type of a playoff, we'll never know who the best team is, period! Yeah, it's FUN to argue for your team each & every year, but it would be more fun to just point at a bracket & say, we beat you OSU, we beat you USC, we beat you WV, & then the best part would be getting to say: We're #1, GO DAWGS, RED & BLACK, HOW BOUT THEM DAWGS, SEC RULES, Kiss my grits Yankee boy!
Now, I understand dapolla's concern about a playoff tainting the regular season but I respectfully disagree. Sure 8 teams out of 119 sounds a bit lopsided, but the other side of that argument is college football has the shortest season of all major sports. MLB-162 games, NHL & NBA-81 games, NFL-16 games, the short season alone makes EVERY SINGLE GAME MEANINGFUL. I say shorten the regular season back to 11 games & play all of the traditional bowl games as usual. Basically the 6 conference champions (YES, all 6 truly decided by a conference championship game) & the 2 at large bids are in the running for the REAL NC. Next, take the 4 winners from the 4 traditional BCS bowl games & seed em' #1-#4 in a 4 team playoff. The regular season would still matter tremendously, the conference championship would still be CRUCIAL cause it would guarantee you a shot at the playoffs, & best of all, all 4 BCS bowl games would matter even more.
Look, today we sit here and argue about whose #1 & #2, under my system we argue about, hypothetically, whose #7 & #8. If my team loses the 2nd argument I'd say, well, we should of took care of our business earlier in the season, BUT, if my team loses the 1st argument, I'm going to jail (and even worse, would have to wear orange) for taking out a hit on some of the poll voters.
THIS IS MY DREAM BUT UNTIL THEN I'LL BE STUCK HERE ROOTING LIKE HELL FOR PITT (fat chance) & OKLAHOMA!
