Where do you stand on the GREAT ISSUE: Playoffs?

16 years 11 months ago #10278 by sadlerdawg
I could definitely get behind a +1 or even the BCS as it is now if everyone was held to the same standards. In other words, every team is in a conference (yes, even you, Notre Lame) and every conference has a championship game. The sheer absurdity that OSU may get to the championship game after being 7th or 8th 2 weeks ago without playing a game just doesn't sit right with me.

The SMART era CONTINUES!!!!!!

I'm for an 8 team playoff, starting 2 wks. after the end of the regular season. Work it into the bowl system. It would be a much fairer determination of who is the best team and also eliminate these 5 wk. delays that hurt college football and drive me crazy.

Just a quick question here while we are talking about playoffs and schedules. Why does WV, USC and Arizona just to name a few only play 11 games when everyone else plays 12?

Lately (for an ole feller like me that means this year) I have been wondering something about myself. dapolla's post reminded me. For most of my life I have loved to watch football, baseball and some NBA. NBA has virtually no interest for me nowadays (last few yrs). I still like to watch Atlanta Braves baseball and a little MLB playoffs and World Series.

The NFL is the one that's got me completely confused. I'm asking myself, \"What happened? Why am I so uninterested in the NFL?\" Is it because of their playoff system? Is it because they have allowed the networks to so overhype and over-commercialize the games that the actual play of the game is secondary or thirdndary or lower? Is it because they allow the networks with their need for political correctness to put female reporter-ettes on the sidelines to ask stupid questions and do stupid interviews so that they can provide employment for these reporter-ettes? Monday Night Football just sickens me because there is so little football and so much hype. I suspect it's all of the above.

The networks are gradually inching their way toward the same kind of zoo with college football, especially on ESPN. I hope it doesn't get too much worse. I have no problem w/ commercials. I know we have to ingest commercials to get the good stuff, but please, enough already.

These days, you watch a game on TV, and most of the time, the commentators don't give the down and yardage, don't give how many yards were gained on a play, who made the tackle and who broke up the pass. Poor, poor play-by-play work. They want to talk about other stuff...I hate it!

I am for the season as it is where \"every game counts.\" I always feel that the SEC is overlooked at the year's beginning by the powers that be, but we eventually end up pretty close to where we should be--maybe next year will prove me wrong and we'll start out near the top :).

But, as time goes on the the quality of football, (players, coaches, technology, etc.) gets better and better, the teams that in the past were easily discounted (except for the SEC, ofcourse) are no longer a \"by\" week team--App. State for example!!

So, in conclusion :P if we leave it alone, it will \"self correct\" and all will be well.

I don't think their seasons are over yet. I know Arizona still has to play Az. St. and USC may still have UCLA. I don't know about WV but Im thinking its the same for them too.

Go Dawgs!!!!
