The Sage Dawg has spoken--I for one will not go against his wisdom as our Sr. Dawg--THANK YOU KIND SIR!
Willie is our man, I am behind him 100%!
Like many of you, I too want to see him be more aggressive w/his playcalling & show more on the field emotion but you gotta admit it, he called a darn good game on Sat. & seemed to be more willing to part w/the conservative rush 4 drop 7, vanilla approach.
Our D is very young, but I think they grew up a lot this past Sat., even though they surrendered 23 points (not 30--our offense gave up the other 7). I mean, let's be honest, our D simply doesn't yet have the 1 huge playmaker we've grown accustomed to in years past (D. Pollack, T. Davis, G. Blue, etc.).
However, I do think I saw some difference-makers in the waiting play on Saturday
Rennie Curan #35 a true Freshman made some great solo tackles & really flew to the ball.
Reshad Jones #9 a redshirt Freshman came in for injured safety Kellin Johnson & made 4 solo tackels in less than 1/2 of football.
Roderick Battle #41 redshirt Sophmore made one of the games biggest plays by forcing a fumble w/Florida driving on the 1st series of the game--talk about grabbing momentum.
Folks, do you realize the only starters this improving D will lose after this 07' season are:
Free Safety Kellin Johnson, Linebacker Brandon Miller, & Defensive End Marcus Howard.
IMO, at LB, Ellerbe & Washington can both flat out play. Asher Allen is going to be an All-SEC corner before he's done, Reshad Jones is definitely a stud safety, & our young D-linemen are only going to get, bigger, faster, & stronger.
Our current recruiting class boasts the #2 ranked DT in the nation, DeAngelo Tyson from Statesboro & 3 other top ranked D-linemen. We also have three, 4-star defensive backs, plus stud 07' LB recruit Akeem Hebron who spent this season prepping at GA Military College.
Boy, I can hardly wait til' next year when we field one of the nastiest, most dominating defenses in all the nation!!!
