GAME DAY: GEORGIA BULLDOGS Vs ARKANSAS RAZORBACKS

4 years 1 month ago #81199 by thriller
I thought I'd never say this, but . . . reality is impossible to deny . . . we have no quarterback.

But we've got Stetson Bennett, and he can manage a game as well as anybody. Thank you, Stetson, for not giving up on UGA. Your experience is going to take us to a somewhat difficult finish line, but I'm thinking something like 8-2 or 7-3. And I'm an optimist.

Mathis did what I expected - over-believed in his arm strength, just as always (Last year's G-Day game). This is major college football, not highschool. Your arm is not going to out-gun FAST SEC secondaries. Stetson took the low risk passes and knew what NOT to do. And our D can keep us in ANY game.

It was a game, and I'll take it. GO DAWGS!!!!!

OK...it was ugly .....very ugly at best..

For a multitude of reasons we can’t compare this first game to seasons pasts..

It ain’t the same.... and to try to evaluate it same is fruitless...

We got a very fortunate win....leave it at that...more like scrimmage
Than game.... Assburn didn’t look like all that against KY..

Back to chopping wood.... Go Dawgs

Go Dawgs!

Sunday morning coffee

CKS..... honest as usual... Both coaches and players have to do a better job....Int wasn’t Mathis fault... wrong route

...... seems we had a flag on every offense play...

Running game..... RB not synced with OL. will improve...

Didn’t have a cupcake game to beat up on to get better...

Youth showed out on offense....

Watching other games and upsets.... season is going to be filled

With surprises....

We have college football... three months ago didn’t seem possible.

Lordy... how... good is it to be talking Dawg football

Stay tuned.. Stay well....

Go Dawgs...

Go Dawgs!

I agree with thriller that Stetson is a game manager and while I am glad we have him, it will be hard to win any championship with just that. I think we have to face the fact that in this day and age, you have to have a QB that can take over a game when needed.

I thought Mathis would have that in him, but I think the game is too fast for him right now and he's just not ready.

Seems to me that out best hope at QB is not yet medically cleared to play. We have the receivers I think, but I do think we will need to have a little more than what we can get from Bennett.

Overall I give out QBing a C+ yesterday. Stetson gets a B+ but Mathis gets a D if not an F. Our running game gets a B-. We were "okay", but that's about it. I never got the impression we could take over the game on the ground. Our receivers get an A. I think we've got depth, and a good mix of dynamic and possession pass catchers. I am really excited about this group but we've got to get someone behind center who can really push the ball downfield. The O-line was solid enough to get a B+, but some miscues keep them from grading higher. 3rd down efficiency was abysmal so I think the offense finishes with a B- at the very best.. but maybe it should be in the C+ range to be honest.

I give the defense a solid A, but we didn't face the most dynamic of offenses. Linebacking and D-line were great. DB's created turnovers and held Franks to a sub 50 rating. All aspects were in the A range.

Special teams earn an A. Punting and returning were all you could ask for.. Placekicking got the job done.

What did we learn? Those out of conference tune up games and practice time matter. The first half was like NFL preseason game 1 ugly. More and more it seems like this is Kirby's offense, and all of our OC's have just been the guys calling the plays out of the exact same playbook since year 1. We are a great defensive team, but we need an offense to match it.

God Bless and Go Dawgs

As usual, some spot on observations from you guys! I was very BIG on Mathis because I really feel like his ceiling is high and he brings a dimension to our O that will be needed if we have a chance to make a run. But I can’t get over a few things that I’ve seen from him that makes me think that he just doesn’t have confidence in himself. Besides that it’s obvious that he has the run first mentality that just doesn’t work at this level!

Also feel like when Bennett came in the o line and offense in general played with better chemistry. Bennett for sure knew where to go with the ball but the offense just looked different when he came in, almost like they all knew things were about to be different in a good way. I could be way off here but these guys see these QB’s everyday and they know who’s the dude and who’s not the dude.

I’m still thinking that Kirby is going to start Mathis Saturday but with a short leash. The fact that he brought him back in the 4th makes me think Kirby hasn’t given up on him yet. I may very well be off here too.

I still feel like Daniels is our guy as soon as he is cleared.

One more thought about our O. I agree that it felt like Kirby’s offense but I’m wondering if they schemed a very vanilla game plan to not overwhelm Mathis. With all our playmakers there’s NO way this is the offense we are going to see all season. If that’s the case then why hire Monken?

One things for certain our D will keep us alive in every single game. Besides Richie giving up that TD and a few other blown coverages our D is straight filthy and will only get better!

I watched the Gators, Tenn, Auburn and Bama. Take away our penalties, get our O line positions dialed in, find the right QB and I think our chances are pretty good against all of them.

I’m still trying to stay optimistic as always, even during the first half I was never worried that we wouldn’t find a way to win. There’s not a team out there this season so far that is LSU-2019. Clemson is good but not great, Ohio St TBD...

GO DAWGS
