You also were definitely on board with staying lively in Columbus. Seem to remember some others on this board that recognized a lack of judgment by those that apparently had other things to do. Columbus and Central Georgia has always been recruited heavily by Auburn. Columbus was the meeting place, Memorial Stadium, for the yearly battle between the schools. My high school football coach ( Al Jeffrey, Georgia 1942) participated in what were some brutal battles with Auburn. Kirby Smart was the right choice to lead UGA, not a doubt.
The 1942 Georgia Bulldogs football team represented the Georgia Bulldogs of the University of Georgia during the 1942 college football season. Led by Heisman Trophy winner Frank Sinkwich, the Bulldogs compiled an 11–1 record and won the Rose Bowl. The 75–0 win over Florida is the largest margin of victory in the series history.[1] The Bulldogs were ranked second in the final AP Poll, conducted before bowl season. While the Ohio State Buckeyes were crowned national champions by AP, Georgia was crowned as national champions by eight other NCAA-recognized "major selectors".[2] The Buckeyes did not compete in a bowl game in 1942.
Auburn was our only loss in 1942.
