Do not know if others have read this particular article, if not, points out that help was needed from a coaching standpoint offensively. Smart again points out later on in the article that he is a defensive coach.
Not trying to open an old wound, however I have to mention again that Chubb and Michel made their way to Chaney's office to discuss offensive play calling. This area still has me wondering . . . .
“Offensively, he helps with how to practice different guys, how to practice different situations,” Smart said. “That was a really good position hire because he’s been a really good asset thus far from a quality control standpoint, decision making, and offensive game-planning.”

Long stretch....but.... have used something similar as part of team building in my business management approach..
I don't think it was strange that NC and SM approached our OC and had speaks
Take into account first year coaches...building communications...... always better to have troops part of the buy in....if they are part of the decision making process....easier to take ownership and responsibility....
Coaches and players talk al the time..... this conversation/meeting was made known in detail to the press.....which got the attention of entire team..
NS and SM grew in their leadership role as a result..... wonder if TG ever met with CMB....just not
Reported ......
Results.....players have the ears of coaches .....who in this case listen....
Did this play favorably in their thinking to return..... playing for a coach who seeks input....

There were many in the media that had something to say about Chubb, Michel and Chaney. Article below I chose after reading several accounts of the meeting.

Regardless..... how the meeting came to pass..... I see it as a plus......
Not being the norm of what we were accustomed ..... it seemed and felt out of place
Much like the odd sock....

Hoping I have read your post as presented. I also see the "meeting" as a positive. Definitely not the "norm". Kind of like the guy or gal driving the forklift . . . . If we change the way we run the forklifts as has been done for years, can get more out of the door onto the 18 wheelers, called progress.
I really like the talent in Athens, maybe more than ever before, years.
Basically stand with ogredawg and his position(s) on 2017. Good defense, offense questionable.
Believe that 2017 will show more "balance" on offense than we have seen in a long time. That is if we have this group of players ready for the season. Chaney has the players, does he have the "knowledge" of reading defenses like AM did. Yep, would love to see AM return to Athens and take the title of Offensive Coordinator on his business card. AM stepped out of the lines when attending camps, rather than spending his summers in Sunny Florida. Said couple of times before on this channel . . . . Did not meet with favor from Richt/Bobo. AM at this point has more offensive skills than both of the aforementioned coaches. FACT. One dawgs opinion.

Yup....
Perfect analogy..... Buc....
Love and admire AM....... was like having another coach on the field..... it appears that he can also
Teach...... have no doubt he will find his way into coaching....at some point...
Has a career available as a agent for pro football players also....he will be successful....period..
