From Athens - Friday Thoughts

Reading the article below, has me thinking that both Eason and Fromm are going to see action this year, maybe 2018 also.

For what it is worth . . . . this group of coaches did not give up on a top ranked quarterback from the State of Georgia. Clemson wanted a triple option quarterback, worked well for them. Last coaching staff believed that the quarterback position could only be played by a pro style, in the pocket quarterback. Getting interesting.

Justin Fields . . . .

I have been around UGA Football for a long time, have watched a lot of film, have also read volumes from the AJC, Journal/Constitution back in the day of newsprint and black/white TV.

Francis Tarkenton now in the Professional Football Hall of Fame, and belongs there.

Most of us know that football has changed, talent, size, coaching, facilities and the list goes on and on.

Justin Fields has more talent at every move he makes, both passing, running and escaping capture than any young man I have watched since Francis Tarkenton. Speaking to the University of Georgia, not Watson and others since the "Bust" of Fran landed in the Hall of Fame.

Fully understand that Justin Fields is not wearing the Red and Black at this point, meaning commitment. I am totally in "step" with UGA's coaching staff trying their best to get Justin to play in Athens.

Being able to watch Justin behind a stout offensive line and "potential" running backs, that will play in the NFL, this is the closest we have been to playing in the Final Four since the NCAA in all of their "wisdom"? has me thinking that we are "real".

Go back to recruits like Camarda. Two/Three stars do not mean spit. Does not push UGA into the top five at this point. What it means to me is a coaching staff that recognizes what it takes to compete in the SEC.

Jamaree Salyer . . . . Absolute "must".

Deontrey Hill . . . . Absolute "must". Future all-pro center in the NFL. Not a doubt in my mind.

Crossed fingers, never know about these young men. Classic City is a special place. Many thousands know that comment to be factual.

yankeedawg1, spot on with finding your place as a high school football player.

New rule is going to change the media approach to "where" a young man signs his LOI. (I think).

There is a upside and a downside to the new rule, me thinks.

Upside is that a "very talented" player can take his time . . . . (Maybe). That has been the media allowing players to work what they think is their magic. Both media and players. Goes both ways. Yep, football has changed since newsprint.

Downside is that a "very talented" player taking his time will not allow him to land at the place or spot he wanted to play the game originally.

Pressure now reaches another level from those recruiting these young men.

Do the recruiters hold scholarships open . . . . "hoping" the last minute wishes come true?

With the rule change(s) college football now has a different path, both recruiters and players will have to make decisions they have not been faced with prior to 2017, sooner rather than later. (Me Thinks).

We are in agreement that college sports is and still growing as a huge revenue stream...for the schools and

the media selling advertising..... M & M leading a crowed field which is also growing....

All this applies pressure to have a marketable product....aka winners

It is what it is.....me thinks starting with CJP and now CKS the thinking of the Row has to change

Uga's. Cash cow and golden goose...need a makeover.....something more than lipstick....

And something more than Scrooge brings to the table......

Reading your last post yankeedawg1 pointed me in the direction of the article below written by Seth Emerson.

Italicized paragraph copied from the link below absolutely proves once again when one cannot get their brain in line with what is going on, and should be noted that he is the "face" supposedly of the cash cow (football) program. Hard for me to believe that he is nothing more than a stepping stone for Mahogany Row.

Also, another shout out from me to Coach Pruitt. Seth mentions that Richt wanted to hire more folks, somehow he left much of the football business unfinished in more than one area.

There is little doubt that many of these hirings will spend much of their time trying to help these young men stay clear of trouble that shows its ugly head in every college town in the country. Won't go into Baylor and many others.

Smart and Pruitt did more than coach football at Alabama, they watched Saban work his magic and are profiting from wise counseling.

Good read Seth Emerson.

It’s all legal per NCAA rules, but they’re prohibited from recruiting, coaching on the field. UGA athletics director Greg McGarity, a skeptic a few years ago, said: “Any position that we have here needs to be justified. … What are these people going to do?”
