Special Teams, Special Attention Finally

8 years 7 months ago - 8 years 7 months ago #73296 by Buc
There has been a lot talk here and elsewhere for a long period about Special Teams. Reading the tea leafs this time around, like what I see much better than the past x number of years.

Changes continue, and actually it is gratifying that what has been said on Dawgs.com was absolutely spot on. Another area that many here posted their thoughts concerning what could or should be done.

To me it is another point proven that Mark Richt was not only stubborn, he was a self centered head coach that never quite figured out that he was wrong.

Beginning to hear whispers about the reasons Smart did not want any player associated with the previous head coach. Seems there is no love loss between the two. Another reason for ESPN to speak out. ESPN likes Mark Richt a lot, has that presence that suits them. More and more we see ESPN siding up with most universities that they believe have a chance to dethrone the SEC.

Kirby Smart is embracing coaches like the "Beamer's" that understand the need for solid leadership on the Offense, Defense and Special Team(s).

Been around the game long enough to know that not everything we want will happen overnight. I am of the mindset that understands every program starts somewhere. Mark Richt never allowed the questions about Special Teams to move past lip service. Bet this . . . . there will be changes in Miami. Does not want to be ridden out on a rail, and that is exactly what happened to him in Athens.

I do know that Wartdawg was "loud" on this board about Special Teams over and over. One of many phases of the game that he understands.

With the many changes that are occurring in Athens under Smart and Company, it will give me (can only speak for myself) a chance to get a feel for the many changes that are being made. Many of us have asked for change for a while, many of us got our wish.

I welcome Beamer Ball joining hands with Smart and Company. Dynamic Duo, of sorts.

Go Dawgs :)

Many or some here remember that Bill Dooley was the head coach at Virginia Tech. There is a history between the two programs. Below is a head coach (retired) that did a lot more with much less talent than our previous head coach did.

Feel real good about Kirby Smart reaching out to a variety of football folks that will make Georgia a better prepared team to play between the Hedges and elsewhere.

Coach Beamer is not only classy, he recognizes what is happening in Athens. Some never caught on, or were too self centered to change with the times. Thank you Miami. We owe you one.

Thought this might fit.

Enjoyed reading the comments to the article.

Remembering all of the chatter about Mark Richt leaving and our recruiting going to you know where. Does not appear to be the case at this point. Time will tell.

Thoughts?

If you haven't watched the video below, might take a look.

Coach Nick Saban is recognized for what he has accomplished in football "overall". Impressive in my book.

"Stuff" like Harbaugh is doing at the present, does not afftect Saban. Nick gets in some pretty good shots when asked about what Jim Harbaugh is attempting. Speaks in a way that hits home without going overboard.

Gets cold up that way, yes it does, eh Nick.

My thoughts continue to go back to this . . . . Head Coach Kirby Smart spent nine years with the "master".

Mark Richt and the Black Jerseys . . . . know that some here liked the idea, was suggested to do that again against a couple of opponents.

Head Coach Kirby Smart will do as averagedawg has said, just do what needs to be done.

Say this again . . . . the Carney is now the coach at the "U". Will his stock rise any further than it has to this point? Can't answer that, will say this, he had better be light years ahead of where he was in Athens. Anyone that believes the folks in South Florida will put up with the same "stuff" that folks did in Athens, you have another thought coming and it will not take 15 years to get there. Do not under estimate the college football knowledge in South Florida. I said that. Stand by that.

Touching briefly on the "Greeny" thing . . . . Cowherd doing the same thing. Two peas in a pod.

On Dawgs.com we have been all over this BS for a long time. Long time, meaning "years". A lot of the same "stuff" is going on with local cub reporters. Just saying. Don't want to hear me, shut me out. PO'd about "Greeny" . . . . bet that. As far as his partner or what what ever the other part of the M means, Golic is not a bright person. Was not that good with his hand in the dirt.

Sorry . . . . maybe . . . . have mentioned on Dawgs.com many issues that I have with those that call what they are doing . . . . reporting.

It's funny Buc..... I never really considered my comments on our special teams to be supremely keen insight or anything like that...

...it just seemed like common sense.

You know..3 phases of the game; offense, defense, and special teams

It's not really rocket science, and it's why I expressed such vocal dismay about our issues not being effectively addressed.

God Bless and Go Dawgs

Guess we differ on the Special Team(s) insight you mention above.

You were spot on and lead the Special Teams talk on Dawgs.com. Fact.

Enjoy going back and reading posts that were stating a position that was sorely overlooked and then come forward and see where a member such as yourself "understands" and says so.

Previous head coach did not understand nor did he do anything substantial when it came to making a change that was sorely needed. Richt hated being called out, preferred to act as if he knew what needed to be done. Just another reason he got the "boot".

Wartdawg, you are followed closely on this board, there is a reason for that.

Go Dawgs, coach'em up Coach Beamer. :)
