Take my word for it - Willie Martinez was a dumpster fire at UGA. There's a reason why he's been demoted to defensive backs coach and isn't in the coordinator slot any longer. In terms of why he's still in coaching - well, life's lesson for the day: it's not necessarily what you know, but
who you know.
In terms of the BM folk - you'd really have to know the history to appreciate the fact that CKS has put them on notice. The IPF is just one aspect, but that problem was solved courtesy largely by Jeremy Pruitt. The culture which I preach about all the time is the main thing that he's telling them has to change; player culture, personnel culture, and administration culture. If UGA wants to be in the world of contending for NCAA Championships, then everything in terms of how recruiting is done --- the money spent on it, the amenities on campus, the flash and splash of a big name head coach on the recruiting trail and how he arrives on campus (helicopters come to mind), the training facilities, how the team travels, the money spent on official visits, stipends, the willingness to fund travel expenses to recruit far and wide across the nation --- has to change. When's the last time UGA coaches traveled to a place like Rhode Island to recruit a 5th year senior offensive tackle?
And all of that takes money. Money which has been, shall we say - less than forthcoming until recently. (I'm not talking about coaching salaries here). And there's a reason why the money hasn't been forthcoming - because championships didn't matter. Football is about people and rings gather dust remember? UGA has been able to do things on the cheap (compared to other teams that routinely compete for NCs) because when championships aren't your objective, then you can back off the zeroes before the decimal point when writing the checks.
