Scooby,
And I ask you why should we not be going "gaga" over the new coaches? Kirby was
the best hire in the nation, without question. I know you said he was an excellent hire, but it's not just his hire that was impressive. That was just the beginning. In looking at what he has accomplished with this football program in a little over 3 months on the job -- 2 months of that full time -- we are seeing exactly why he was the best hire in the nation.
Look, whether Kirby ultimately fails or succeeds, all of us around here are ecstatic about the fact that we finally,
finally.......
finally!...have a leadership that "gets it." From day one on the job, Kirby peered into this program and said: "we're gonna fix this, and this, and this, and this...now! Not in two seasons, right now."
And dawg nation breathed a sigh of relief.
Kirby called us out day one...
This team doesn't have the depth to play in the SEC....
That was a hell of a bold statement. That was a shot across the bow of the entire program. He and his staff are sending a clear message to the suits in the BM:
You want to win championships? Fine. Well, it's time to grow up. The product you have been putting on the field and the talent you have pissed away is pathetic and unacceptable - and it ends now. Everything prior to my hire is done. You want championships? I'll get you your championships, but first you have to understand that the football team you've given to me ain't gonna get it done. In fact, your team doesn't have the depth to play football in our conference. Hi, I'm Kirby, and I'm your new head football coach....
Everything that CKS and his staff are publicly saying with regard to the fundamental problems with this team are all the things that we all have been saying for years.
And they're addressing these problems in such a bold way that it's almost like Kirby is sending another message - a message to that large segment of the dawg nation whose enthusiasm has been on life support for years:
I hear you. I understand. Ya'll relax. I've got it, alright?"
That's why we're bubbling over with excitement. This isn't about a cult of personality of Pittman, Tucker, Chaney or Kirby. This is about being excited about what we see them doing. This is about enjoying the moment when football finally came back to Athens.
