Pat Allen ---- Will Be "All That" . . . .

Going back through some video on offensive linemen that are in Athens now.

Pat Allen, I believe is going to be "all that" in Athens. Said the same thing some time back about Isaiah Wynn. Had an advantage over some knowing that Isaiah Wynn was/is a football player. Watched him in high school, commented that he had a "nasty streak" on this board. John Theus, now departed has said the same thing. Theus was on the practice field with #77.

Pat Allen reminds me so much of Isaiah Wynn when looking at their high school film.

Pat Allen has the frame to add weight if that is what Sam Pittman wants, and apparently he does. Allen has everything that it takes to play left tackle. Realize many will say he is "just" a freshman. To that I say, good, have never been opposed to sitting for a year, but putting in the time needed to be "all that" speaks volumes. If you read this board, hold me to saying I believe Pat Allen will play left tackle before leaving Athens, and play it well.

Also believe/know that we have "several" young men with size that can play serious football for Sam Pittman. Not a doubt in my mind that Georgia is going to run the football, and it will be behind a offensive line that Smart and Company (Pittman) will like.

Stop with this. Pat Allen can play at 325 and not lose a step. Not everyone can do that.

yankeedawg1, Kirby Smart said the right things prior to greeting the folks in Macon.

Kirby Smart learned a lot more about football than on field coaching from Saban.

Nine years under Nick Saban that will not be wasted.

Apparently not everyone, coach. At least not in Athens in the recent decade and a half. (sorry, I couldn't resist)

I have to keep pinching myself to believe I'm not dreaming to hear a head coach of UGA talking about the importance of the lines.

This is going to be a fun fun season.

I was talking with a Gator friend the other day (yep, everyone has at least one), and he was telling me how impressed he was with CKS's handling of the Harbaugh stunt - which he said CKS was 100% right in everything he said. Friend also said that it speaks volumes that Kirby can get his point across in a classy manner without being demeaning or antagonistic - just the facts. He said "Kirby strikes me a lot like Coach Mac: no BS, just the football facts boys. End of story." I told him that's a good assessment of what I've seen out of Kirby since he's been here. We both agreed that Jacksonville is going to be fun this year.

No BS.

My thoughts go back to what Kolton Houston said a day or so ago about the offensive line.

Houston said that being able to play three or so extra linemen in a game would make a huge difference. Took me to the game in Atlanta between Georgia and Alabama.

Second half of the game, Alabama came out and ran the football, offensive line beat on our defensive line, actually making us defenseless.

Kirby Smart is dead on in my judgment when it comes to getting UGA ready to play with the likes of Alabama.

First off Smart knows just how good Sam Pittman's players are, he lined up against the group. Smart also knows that Alabama has had the same thought process when it comes to offensive linemen. Big.

Some of the young men that will be on campus are just that, big. It has been stated that UGA is going to run the football. I do not doubt that for a minute, maybe more than any time in the previous 15 years.

Young offensive linemen are usually much better at run blocking than pass blocking. Lot of technique involved in pass blocking. Take the same young men and run block, they learned how to do that in high school. Not so much technique as size, strength and willingness. That points out to me that Georgia will have some of the young men lining up on Saturdays sooner than the previous coaches did. Gives the starting rotation time to catch their breath.

Running backs have found their way to Athens forever. That is a good thing. The new coaching philosophy will make sure that continues.

I think back about Knowshon Moreno sitting on the sideline, working with the Scout Team, still have nightmares about that.

What I see is a total disassembling of the past group and their methods. Had to be some reason Kirby Smart was hired and Mark Richt released.

Point that I am trying to make is . . . .

Why sit talent on the bench if that same player has some talent that can be used right away. Don't have to be accomplished in all areas of the game, that can come with on field playing time. Don't have to force feed these young men. Bring them along at their level. Some playing time on Saturdays does a lot for these young men.

As Kolton Houston said, offensive line only second to the quarterback in the difficulty of playing the position.

Love watching some in the media do an about face. No longer referring to offensive linemen as less than bright.

Remember this offensive lineman? I do, and I also remember the coaches not knowing what to do with Cordy Glenn. Moved him all over the place, sometimes sitting him.
