I get the why behind so many bowl games (money grab). I also get that you might see a good game between some of these teams, but during one of the bowls they were talking about how it's a tradition for at least one of the teams in that particular bowl to be going through a coaching change. Watched another and saw a 5-7 team play. The NCAA is now making up new rules on the fly in order to determine what constitutes bowl eligibility.
That's just stupid.
I also understand the necessity of tempering expectations for Smart, and accordingly I am not going to sit here and expect a SEC title and playoff birth in year one. I will say this though... our
former coach made a "successful career" out of beating the plethora of mediocre teams on our schedule. I made the comment that with our schedule we could win 7 by just showing up.
So I'm not going to temper my expectations below the level of results we were getting out if seasons that Mark Richt claimed were "successful". So I may not expect a championship in year one, but I'm not expecting less than what I had come to expect from Mark Richt.
