Depth Determines Football Games

After watching the Ohio State/VT game last night believe I saw the “Depth” talk proven again.

Ohio State led by urban meyer put on display a lot of the things that he learned while coaching in the SEC. Actually reminds me of Alabama football over the past several years. Just continue to beat on them until there is nothing left. Happened to us in Atlanta. Know that is often said, but Alabama physically whipped us in the second half.

What has changed since then?

We are in the “early stages” of building depth, getting there at certain positions, but not overall at this point. Many talking heads around the country referring to Georgia Football first mention, outstanding linebacking. Then the question arises as to what will happen with the defensive line in 2015. We have players that have been on campus for a while, several playing their last season in Athens.

We have added players such as Trenton Thompson, Jonathan Ledbetter, Michael Barnett, DaQuan Hawkins, and Justin Young. While talented, as talented as they are, still have to get into the mix before conclusions can be made. This is the SEC, not high school. Tyler Clark and Julian Rochester coming in 2016. Anyone that has played the game knows that there is a difference in practice and game time.

Looking over the Ohio State schedule, don't see a single loss for OS. Appears to me that Ohio State being the National Champs will be in the Final Four regardless of schedule. Can't leave an undefeated National Champ out. Pretty simple to figure.

Back to Georgia. Depth building is occurring. How far these young pups can take us, we will find out soon.

Takes me to this.

The Georgia/Alabama game in Athens, just became huge for both teams. Saban wants another crack at meyer. Alabama is going to be ready to play every game on their schedule, they do have depth and are very talented. Do we have depth as deep as Alabama, don't think so. Sanford Stadium will be rocking when Alabama comes to town. Saban is already showing his surly side both in his pressers and on TV.

Pruitt/Rocker and Company know first hand what it is like facing off with Alabama or being a part of the Alabama team.

Did I forget South Carolina, nope. Might be someone on this board can preview their thoughts on the Gamecocks led by Steve Spurrier.

Agree we are a work in progress on depth

Building. However we have coaches committed to playing young players

You get what you earn. Youthful mistakes will

Happen and get corrected or you won't see

PT until you get your head gets straight

OSU will not be tested until playoffs. Not

Sneaking up on anybody. May stumble against

MSU. Bama. and Dawgs. This year

Ali....Frasier. Going to beat on each other

Entire game. We have a punter and a FG kicker. ST. might prove to be the key

iMac will be handling KO and punts by then

Don't see our Bama gang backing away

Go Dawgs

Go Dawgs!

This isn't directed at the comments Buc and Yankee have made because they are
accurate
, but I am sick of this from this program.

"We are a work in progress on depth"

"We are in the “early stages” of building depth"

I'm glad I guess, but its sad to be still hearing that after 15+ years

These other programs are not works in progress, nor are they building.
We've had a HC in place for 15+ years. I don't care about the staff turnover... we never had this depth in the years when our staff had been stable for a bit\, and I'm
pretty sure I heard this same thing years ago..."early stages"...."building".

God Bless and Go Dawgs

Much truth Wartdawg.

At this point speaking for myself, have said just about everything I can say about our coaching. We got by occasionally, but the overall was far less than we were often led to believe.

Did see improvement from the Special Team(s), Lord knows that was on the back burner for too long.

With more depth, might be those that want playing time will kick butt on Special Teams.

Noticed when Special Team players came off of the field, Ekeler was there to greet them. Know a little about Ekeler's history, probably will be the first coach hired away from Georgia. While I would not like it, goes to show that there has been a positive change in some areas in Athens.

What you think about the Falcons in 2015 Wartdawg? Know that you are a big time fan. Buccaneers just hired Tim Jennings. Always enjoyed watching him play. He understands Lovie's defense from top to bottom.

Wart allow me this

In the past 15 years can you point to

A similar or better group of assistant coaches

Not a single but the entire staff

And this is the second season that we have gone the coordinator route with noticeable
Success. While you are at it name a
S&C coach as qualified as Locke

That and HC is so far staying out of the

Kitchen......past is history can do nothing to

Change that. Other than find the answers to

Not repeating our bed wetting as NCdawg calls them....with CMR in place

We win in spite as we know he is unlikely to

Be leaving anytime soon....Go Dawgs

Go Dawgs!

I heard MR being interviewed on the radio this morning. He was talking about holes
and imbalances in our recruiting that needed to be addressed. Just made me shake my head some more.

Any holes we have, we dug.

No excuses.

God Bless and Go Dawgs
