"BTW....I absolutely LOATHE the "star" rating system! It's accuracy is about as spot on as a wing-nut armed with an M16A4."
As much as we all remember when the ratings get it wrong, this is just not an accurate statement. Well it might be accurate in that it isn't "spot on" with everyone, but no one
should expect it to be 100% dead on accurate.. I don't think anyone really expects that
at all. Generally speaking though... your 4 and 5 star guys will be perform better than
the 3 stars.
Most of the time the ratings are fairly accurate. Most 5 star kids go to school and play like 5 star athletes. The schools that get the most 4 and 5 star athletes are the top schools when it
comes to results most of the time.
By comparing the number of incoming signees from 2008 to 2012 to the number eventually honored at the highest level, we can arrive at these odds:
Odds of Becoming an All-American, by Recruiting Ranking
5–Star: 1 in 4.
Top 100: 1 in 6.
4–Star: 1 in 16.
3–Star: 1 in 56.
2–Star: 1 in 127.
All FBS Signees: 1 in 45.

Yes anyone can look at any year and quickly find some misses, but they rank 1000's and 1000's
of players every year. I also don't see teams like Alabama or OSU lining up outside of a bunch of 2-star athlete's houses.
