I know the trendy thing now days is to talk about how "them stars don't mean nuttin", but they can show you where priorities lay...

I saw this yesterday.. A general ranking of players signed by UGA based on star ratings and positional ranks

1. Thompson 5 star DT pos rank 1
2. Godwin 5 star ATH pos rank 1
3. Ledbetter 4 star SDE pos rank 5
4. Patrick 4 star WDE pos rank 5
5. Walker 4 star WDE pos rank 8
6. Roundtree 4 star S pos rank 5
7. McGraw 4 star CB pos rank 20
8. Rivers 4 star WDE pos rank 9
9. Harris 4 star TE pos rank 5

and finally

10. Allen 4 star OT pos rank 18

Then after 3 more 4 star guys and 2 more 3 star guys... none of which are O line
we get back to

14. Madden 3 star OT pos rank 47
15. Seymour 3 star OT pos rank (JUCO #6)
16. Hardin 3 star OT pos rank 51

Now I know what stars mean and do not mean. I know some of these 3 star guys will outplay that forecast... I get all that...

but why dont we see another 4 star OL or one ranked higher than 18 (coming out of HS)?

We did a bit better in 14's class with 2, 4 star guys Sims and Wynn on the O-line, but I wonder when was the last time we got a 5 star OL.. Anyone know?

I looked at Rivals ranking this morning.. there were 12 OT's ranked ahead of our top recruit that went somewhere else with Ohio State leading the way with 2 of them.

OG's? 'Bama got #3 and #4... Tech got #32.. UGA not even on the list

Centers? Bama got #3.. UGA not on the list.

So what I guess all that says is we are set up fine on the OL for the next 3 years because we
didn't really see the need?

If not mistaken Wartdawg, believe that our left tackle was a 5*. Ranked 2nd or 3rd in the country at that point.

Still believe that Sims will play left tackle and Wynn center. Very good offensive linemen.

Edit: Sorry, referring to Theus.

John Theus is a team player. He did admit that the stars went to his head and was demoted. Friend did not play the "star" game.

Back then some were saying that Theus would be our left tackle from the get go. It was also predicted that he would move on to the NFL and play left tackle. Ain't gonna happen. That is not a shot at Theus as a person, does not have the talent to play left tackle in the pros. Guard written all over Theus.

Georgia's highest-rated recruit in the Rivals100 is Bolles (Fla.) offensive tackle John Theus, who is No. 11 overall and kept his five-star status. The UGA commit has been touted as one of the gems of the recruiting class, with analysts projecting that he could easily end up as a left tackle in the NFL once his college days are over.

Got it.. I thought it might have been Theus, but I don't keep up with recruiting like some others here do...

I still stand by my comment though that Richt doesn't get it when it comes to the OL. I still don't think he gets it. I was reading something else when I came across another OL recruit from Georgia that went elsewhere. He did get an offer from UGA, but the offer didn't come until late
January and he said no thanks.. I'll stick with the people that actually made me an offer earlier.

It was CBS and CRS that paid him that last second visit and gave him an offer. They obviously saw something they liked and wanted, but prior to that very last second attempt we made... not even an offer to the kid... no one had come a callin' at all until Sale and Schott showed up.

When Theus gets drafted it will be at the Right tackle position. Agree that he will not be able to play left tackle in the NFL but think he does have the ability to play on the right side. He has really improved over the last 2 years and I said all along that he would play on the Left when his time came and he did not prove me wrong....IF he has a stellar year which I predict he will he will be a top 20 pick in the NFL draft...going back to our OL and new coach hope Sale sticks with it and not become discouraged....I firmly believe Friend would of stuck with UGA IF more attention were paid to him and the OL...

I think that Houston will move to center and Sims will play RT this year...just my thoughts

If our head coach had all the hatches down tight, especially the offensive line, believe numbers on the win/loss would look a lot better. If he understood, he would have done something about it in the past 14 years. Here we are in 2015 and still having discussions about "those" that "continue" to sign with Auburn, Alabama and others.

Not too hard to figure . . . . not a part of football that he understands. Rate this shortcoming worse that the "pooch kick". "Pooch" was one game, offensive line problems, for the most part 14 years.

Just like the play calling by Seattle, that will always stick with their head coach. Same can be and will be said about our head coach.
