Bobby Bowden was making the same type mistakes at the end of his coaching career at FSU. As sadlerdawg said, not all of the mistakes made were picked up by the press. Some were actually cover ups.
One of the larger mistakes that our head coach made was following Bowden's hiring practices, actually caused BB's release from FSU.
Hiring family and friends is not the best method, especially in this day and time when social media changes quickly. Jimbo Fisher was brought in as the coach in waiting. Promise this, Jimbo Fisher did not wait. First day on campus he took over. Whether anyone likes Jimbo Fisher or not, he did what all fans want, prepared FSU for a National Championship.
Have tried to stay away from these comments and have but . . . .
Anyone that thinks many of these young players are not going to drink, smoke weed, you are not in tune with what is going on. Did not say all, but willing to wager that more do than don't. Georgia does it the "Georgia Way". LSU and others do it differently. Anyone that believes the young men don't know where they "can and can't" are not living in the real world of college football.
Not arguing the point of our head coach doing things his way. We know that he does for the most part handle players differently. Ever wonder why some of the more successful football programs do not enforce "rules" as heavily as our head coach? Not too hard to figure out.
Pruitt comes to a university that is different than what he has seen both in high school and college. Pruitt also knows what is going on, he does not have his head buried in the sand. Pruitt also knows that it will be tougher to reach the top under the rules that are in place in Athens. Going to be interesting to see how "player development" turns out under Pruitt. He is definitely playing against a stacked deck. By that I mean almost every SEC school is a bit "quieter" about "policy". Yes, again incoming players understand.
Bad game time calls, certain policies in place, hard to win a National Championship. Off subject maybe, but sometimes it is best to call it like it is. I did.
