Wrong, Not. Wake Up or Remain Mediocre

Really good to hear from you again Shannon, last connection was by email and that was a while back. Know that you stay busy, always enjoyed your posts and for sure you understand the game.

Offensive line. Easy to get me started on the subject.

Mentioned before that too often the high fives go to those that end up running the ball into the end zone. My way of thinking, half of those high fives for the touchdown should go to the offensive line.

Understandable that the media puts the sensational stuff out for all to see.

Here is what I would like to see just one time between our team and any other. Cameras focused solely on the offensive line, not for one play, not one series of plays, the entire game. Watching those players going head to head. While that has not been done, bet here is that someone will read this and and think about the suggestion.

Example of the above.

Anyone here ever watch the meets that Nike and others have in the off season? Will maybe post a video later. Get the blood flowing, especially when there is a possibility UGA might land a particular player. I watch a lot of film about overall team play, I also watch the meets around the country where talented players face off one on one for all to see.

Will Friend came to UGA with his mouth shut, not a press hog, much like Jeremy Foley and those that play on the other side of the ball. Went about his business, Will Friend has been a great return on investment (what McGarity could squeeze out of the vault). There were some here and many elsewhere that could have cared less about an offensive line coach. Now read what the media has to say about offensive lines and offensive line coaches. They follow many times what they read on boards like this one. Fact.

Offensive linemen. Chidi Okeke-Valentine, once solid at Georgia, now going to either Alabama or Auburn.

Patrick Allen, decommits from UGA.

At some point there is going to be someone in Athens that understands that the offensive line not only matters, it should be at the top of the list if ever Georgia is going to join those in the Final Four, or Final Eight when that happens.

Question.

Where would Georgia have finished the 2014 Season had not Coach Will Friend laid the ground work for Jeremy Foley to come to Athens? Just one of those down in the dirt, closed mouth, work hard, teach fundamentals offensive line coaches.

"They" just do not get "it". My suspicion is that even though Jeremy Foley is a defensive coordinator, making 1.3 million dollars a year, because he had a friend named Will Friend that understands the need for "youth" in college coaching, Pruitt will return the favor and again save the head coach with a recommendation for the offensive side.

These younger coaches know what is going on with the high school players.

Have had a belly full of watching older coaches move from college to college or pro team to pro team. Time to put young men with "energy" and want to teach, not those that like to hang out with the media every chance they get, or spend time with the ESPN folks in Connecticut. Like it or not, we have one of those coaches, and he is going to get a raise . . . . for what?

I get "juiced" when I watch the same mistakes made over and over, and bad calls made from the top. Top meaning not only our head coach or athletic director, there are more powerful forces above them. Bet that.

Some things never change Shannon, not one for one line comments.

Good to be back Buc. I thought I had to pay a while back and kept delaying. Then I decided what the heck, so I paid for the email. Then Stevetold me my old account is still good.

Anyway, I'm back

SteveDawg: You are now back on your old name without the "2". I can't move the posts under "2" but all future posts will not have it.

Shannon, you made many of us do this . . . . stop, look and listen.

There were some that asked where you were. Still in my email file, know you mentioned more than once that you were busy, learned a long time ago to leave certain things alone.

Recruiting now in full force, going to be a lot to discuss here. :)

Buc, you know from way back my two girls are heavy into soccer so many times I bring my points from that angle. I think I actually have a good question to raise to GM but I doubt he has the testacles to answer this one.

I want to compare CMR to the recently fired women's soccer coach, Steve Holeman. I have met Steve three times. Through our soccer club, my girls have taken tours BY Steve through their facilities on several occasions. My two girls, 9 and 7 know their way around the soccer complex like they do their own back yard.

ADGM fires Holeman after taking UGA to back-to-back NCAA tournaments. The soccer program is only about 15 years old. He had just come off back-to-back top 15 rerutiing classes (unheard of at UGA soccer).

he was building a program.
Just like CMR, Holeman is a GREAT person. Anyone on this board who has been around the man will attest to that. he cuts his own grass:)

He gets fired after losing in the NCAA tournament.

Now, ADGM has no problem firing a coach for being "good but not great" in a program (let's be honest, in the scheme of things, soccer doesn't matter at UGA) that isn't on the radar. Holeman could have stayed at UGA for 20 years and ADGM would never have to hear the masses yell and gripe.

Now, compare that to CMR. About the same scenario: good but not GREAT. he hears more from us , so you would think he would do something.

It's frustrating. I'm tired of being good. NO SEC titles in 10 years and CMR is getting a raise and extension? Holeman takes a program in year 15 and goes back-to-back to the NCAA's and is fired?

Can that be explained? Not by me it can't.

PS: Now, I think a case can be made for Holeman to have been fired too. I know the soccer scene in metro Atlanta. friends with a few coaches at smaller colleges in the area. There are enough girls just in Gwinnett County to field a top 10 team yearly and for that Holeman should have been fired. I want our bar to be raised to where we expect them in every sport.

There is a new NAIA womens soccer team at a small college named Georgia Gwinnett College that is next to our soccer club. Our club has a partnership with them and we use their facilities for events. That team is so good (in only year 3 of having soccer), that they go out and beat DIV II soccer teams; those higher DIV schools have stopped scheduling GGC. All those girls come from Gwinnett.

Buc, you know from way back I have two girls in soccer and many times I bring a soccer perspective to the table. Allow me to make an analogy.

ADGM recently fired the women's soccer coach Steve Holeman. I know him a little. Girls have been through his office, through his complex, several times. GREAT man (sound familiar?) UGA soccer has been around for only 15 years. SH just went back-to-back NCAA appearances. SH just did a first for UGA soccer soccer: two years with top 15 recruiting classes. (sound familiar?)

ADGM says that isn't good enough. (It isn't, by the way).

In a sport that really doesn't matter in the big scheme of things at UGA, ADGM has no problem playing hard-ass and firing a great man (sound familiar?)

Now turn the page to CMR. What's the difference? SH and CMR did "good" jobs. neither did a "great" job. Why is one man fired and the other not?

Of course it's about money. But I will say it has to do with one more thing and that is a character trait of ADGM: he is a coward. I said that. Firing a man that could have stayed at UGA for 20 years and cause ADGM no media scrutiny allows ADGM to have "street cred". Firing the man who steers our football team to 9-4 or 10-3 every year would cause ADGM to have to answer questions.

He is a coward.

SteveDawg says: Shannon... logout with the "2" and log back in without it. That way you get connected to your old posts. OR you can continue as is... LMK

Shannon, to your post #4 and #5 and what you had to say about McGarity . . . . truth.

Really glad that you are back, mean that. You are still close to campus?
